obviously one for the digital DJ’s here – I can either have the mixer side working as a midi controller (and 2 soundcard channels being PFL the other one being the mixed output) or as a VCA mixer where each pair of soundcard channels (4 in total) is treated as a deck. Although I use VDJ I only use the audio side of it, and there was a discount on the software with the controller.
I did look at Traktor but the screen layout confused me and it seemed to be trying to be DJ software, a DAW and a jingle player / automation all at once (if I want to do the last two I have another machine set up for it)
Anyway I found that the VCA settings are slightly better, although of course you can’t see the faders moving on the screen so I select a skin which doesn’t give them loads of space and shows the track database..
From a Tech POV this would make sense as you are mixing two analogue audio streams with the bandwidth of the analogue circuitry rather than a computer trying to do the real time DSP (and introducing artifacts) and I prefer analogue kit as much as possible unless its source playout material, transmission or distribution….
anyone else noticed this difference?
