Hi,
I’m hoping that someone might be able to help. Andrew Cooke aka Cookie has been missing since 3-4pm Sunday 12th Feb. He had been in a bad way at the Chingford Squat party. We have checked local squats and cctv, but he seems to have vanished. He is 29, white and slim (about 5′ 10″) with strawberry blonde hair. He was wearing a grey beanie hat and a red scarf.
Was anybody there?
Any information that you have no matter how small I would love to hear back from you. His family are now very concerned has he has never done this before.
This is the link to the group that we have got to aid us find him

Me 2, the thing is the cctv picture shows him wearing a red hoodie that wasn’t mentioned in the missing report I read, dunno but they may get some more leads from showing that picture to people who were in the area. The jacket he’s wearing in the image could be blue but I can’t tell. It could be bad pixells but it looks like he’s bleeding from his nose too. They also confirmed that a body they found was NOT him which is a relief. I know this may seem a bit cold but I bet the government will use this to impose harsher laws against squat partys.
unfortunately (speaking as someone who also installs CCTV systems now and then) bad pixels show up as a bright colour of red/blue or green, and modern systems particularly those intended as evidence quality map them out as they are distracting and could perhaps be the difference between scum being caught or going free due to a legal technicality in spite of clear evidence.
I wouldn’t class either the Logues comments or even any reaction of Government (as much as I disagree with a lot of what the present govt does) as “cold”. That picture looks like one of a young man who has been beaten. yet the chap comes across as streetwise and popular and not a “newbie” young boy what would accidentally fall into the Grand Union, unfortunately it may well be the case he was dumped in there by his attackers wanting to finish the job.
Life is cheap in London these days and you can get into real bad situations for being from the wrong “ends” (it was starting to get like that even 20 years ago when I lived there). However 20 years ago even in inner city London you could stand up to bullies, put up a bit of a front and come out of it alive (or I would not be here). These days they will fight back and kill.
The only reason feds and locals tolerate illegal (or even legal) dance music events anywhere (not just East London / South Essex) is when they are safer than the other “townie” (or perhaps TOWIE?) style events. in my current town illegal raves got locked off 10 years ago not becaus the locals or cops were “backward / fascist / killjoys” but because bad shit really happened there, one lad drowned in the river, another was slashed across the face. then when this shit started at legal venues and escalated into beatings, murder and shooting these events got locked off too.
if people can’t play nice, those in authority take the playground off them. I’m even reading posts on Dutch party sites hinting that some areas are getting their events stopped not because of drugs but due to a rise in violent incidents there including stabbings and beatings, and its ravers themselves (not right wing media) confirming these incidents have happened. all this is a country with even better drugs than ours.
whats worse is if the first body wasn’t this lad, that means there’s two young men killed in the same area. Wouldn’t surprise me though, its one reason why I no longer bother to travel to London or big cities and even am careful who I hang around with locally, my life outside of party/drugs scenes is way too good at the moment to risk any jumped up little shit trying to take it from me on a whim.

I had been holding hope for the fella. Such a shame. I wonder what the full story is.
sadly this isn’t the first misper we’ve had reported on this forum or on the rave scene and although in the more fun/optimistic times of the late 90s/early 2000s it often really was just folk going on a 3 day bender and hiding up on the comedown, in recent years the news has never been good, 99% of the time now these incidents result in a body being found in sketchy circumstances.
BTW there are now two men dead, the second was a Polish dude unconnected to raves but looks like suicide or OD, at the early age of 25.
As for what happened to “cookie”, (who has connections to my former town!) now it is time for detectives to gather the evidence and a Court to decide that, though according to his friends he had somehow got red paint on his face rather than claret (hence his appearance) so hopefully wasn’t done over.
Still bad that his body ends up in the cut however he came to be in there, and it is now a job for detectives and Court to get the full story.
BTW all the right wing nationals have run the story. their reporting has been sympathetic to the parents and not made a big thing about illegal raves as such (as they remain common in East London) but it has mentioned “legal highs” and the damage is done now anyway.
in fact its now 3 young people dead the same week in the same area, a lad jumped in front of tube train, the aforementioned polish chap and a former actress allegedly murdered by one of her own family. This sort of thing, coupled with an emerging backlash against TOWIE style culture (however “sympathetically” it might initially get reported is going to impact on how night time events are treated. it certainly has done big time 70 miles North East..)
March 16, 2012 at 11:37 am #1249350Has it been confirmed that the body is Andrew Cooke?
March 16, 2012 at 11:51 am #1249343not 100% officially but his parents confirmed to local metpol and the media that the body found was wearing the same clothes as Andrew Cooke and of similar appearance.
This chap apparently had a distinctive style of dress/fashion so it would be unlikely to be anyone else. and even if it were there’s still little good news as he would still be missing and that would be another body to add to the 3 others found in the same week!
I have checked the central Scotland Yard press bureau but they are clearly working through multiple serious crime cases in the same borough and region (all unlinked other than the victims being in their 20s-30s) so the report hasn’t been shown there yet. Can’t blame them as the press office only has limited resources, there does not yet appear to be clear evidence foul play was involved (the “legal highs” can have very nasty mental effects and comedowns including people harming themselves) and they need to concentrate limited resources on putting out publicity aimed at catching many violent people…

It has been confirmed that the body found was that of Andrew Cooke,
my deepest sympathies to his family and friends, its is clear he was very much loved and respected
March 20, 2012 at 8:16 pm #1249347My thoughts and deepest sympathy to friends and family.
March 21, 2012 at 12:23 am #1249360oh no 🙁 .. so scary things, like everyone said, poor family, so awful… it could just be anyone of us that doesn’t come home one day. is so sad how people treat each other. sad sad. he looks like a friendly too…
March 21, 2012 at 1:13 am #1249359This sucks, it has upset me. No one deserves to have this happen to them or to someone they know.
March 21, 2012 at 2:33 am #1249366It’s unlikely the police will do anything.
The body will have been identified by DNA.
They’ll run a full post mortem, with toxicology reports and check for injuries before/after.
Without any firm evidence of fatal injury prior to submergence, the likelihood is that it’ll be an unexplained death with no suspicious circumstances.
Sadly I know the process only too well; it’s exactly what happened to my father in 2005 – he went missing, 3 weeks later he was found on the banks of the River Clyde with a fractured skull but the police couldn’t say whether it had occurred as he landed or before, so the cause of death was unexplained.
I hope that it was purely an accident, for the peace of the family.
RIP Kiddo.
March 21, 2012 at 5:34 am #1249353This happened just down the road to me, quite chilling really as I’ve accidentally walked into a pond once when totally out of it, what luckily only came up to my neck (not even after a rave, just coming home after a drinking session round a mates). God forbid what would of happened if It had been a foot or two deeper! I really feel for the dudes friends and family, must be horrible.
March 21, 2012 at 7:01 pm #1249352Shit sorry to hear about your dad swedger_alex, must have been such a long 3 weeks, and difficult time for you and your family
March 21, 2012 at 8:29 pm #1249367It wasn’t easy, but I knew the minute he’d been reported missing what the outcome would be sadly. It happens all too often. The worst part is not knowing how it happened.
Thanks for your kind words and thoughts though.
I hope that, given time, the friends and relatives of Andrew can piece together his final steps and find peace with his passing.
