December 16, 2012 at 8:09 pm #1160893MCs were the final nail in the coffin for my D&B experience,
what really to pissed me off was the MCs shouting (incomprehensibly) to a crowd of pilled up ravers asking them to make some noise for the mic to be turned up, with the crowd not knowing what the fucktard had said but let out a collective cheer anyway, causing Fucktard MCs mic to be turned up so the music was drowned out, oh and this was on the Valve sound system so you got a 100000w of it. Fuckin hell!December 16, 2012 at 8:09 pm #1218760MCs were the final nail in the coffin for my D&B experience,

BUT there are exceptions to every rule, very occasionally, and Im mean really rare maybe 1 in 10,000, you actually hear one that adds something good to the tune

December 16, 2012 at 8:54 pm #1160844TBH today they’ve got the urban and UKG scenes to express their talents on and many should stay there…
not all are bad but we’ve had two venues closed in my town because MC’s whipped up the crowds to the point that folk from rival areas fought each other and even discharged firearms in the venues. This was after the venue managers and promoters had been specifically warned by the Council and Police that the argumentative nature of these MC’s could lead to that occuring especially as Ipswich venues were not as security-focused as those in London.
we do have some MC’s on the community radio station (as well as normal radio presenters) but their lyrics are regulated by the main presenters due to ofcom rules (no swearing before 20:00 and at any point there should be basic standards of decency) and any bigging up crime, misogyny or bad behaviour and those shows will get taken off air and main presenter might even lose their volunteer status (and this can get you blacklisted from other radio stations!!)
there are UKG / urban events in town with MCs but they are expected to self-censor their lyrics and regulate their behaviour or the event will get locked off, the local community isn’t taking any chances after the shooting. The saddest part of it (other than of course the trauma to the families) is that the local Councillors here who regulate licensing/arts are really cool people (I’ve corresponded with a few over the years), its just they are a bit older than us, they have kids our age and don’t want to see them hurt. Even the senior cops have that view and are far more worried about violence at night time venues than anything else.

That’s nothing unusual in Plymouth man. I went to a pub quiz in Plymouth once and the first question was ‘What the fuck are you looking at?’

December 19, 2012 at 7:22 pm #1160892I know I’m kinda biased in this debate, but I like MC’s (as long as they’re good).
