What does the mic plug into at the other end? it is unlikely to go directly into the computer as those mics need electric power supplied to them at a higher voltage than PC mics. Also is your computer a laptop or a big tower which was built for music (and might have some extra bits a similar desktop in an office does not?)
It plugs into a USB dual pre mate – and it’s a laptop, ain’t got the space for a big tower one sadly.
March 21, 2013 at 11:07 am #1269740that will be the soundcard then, it acts as a mic preamp and provides sound. they can be used on desktops as well and are often better quality as they don’t pick up quite as much noise from the circuits inside the PC…

Wicked, cheers buddy. That’s my new thing learnt for today and it’s not even midday yet!
March 22, 2013 at 12:07 am #1269741there hopefully should be the level control on this box. I’ve had another listen to your tune and I reckon the individual voiceovers are fine but on the double tracks they clip. so for whatever you are using for a DAW you must bring down the levels on each “half” of the vocals. loggy and daft should be able to help you with this as well.
Especially as I want to try and get my mate to play your track on the radio, as he plays a lot of the urban/rap stuff but much of it is from USA. And yet we both live on the same area in ipswich (IP2) as I always see him around when I go to ASDA, so I’m thinking “hang on mate, why is everyone trying to be like African Americans when we live in Blighty? why not play some English hip hop? 😉

March 22, 2013 at 10:27 am #1269749So what’s the apple core now? have you mnaged to remove the hum that was eating up your headroom? or have you got a problem with something else now?

Wow, thanks mate, that’d be awesome! Defo gonna drop the volume on the doubles by about 25% (more if necessary) and then hopefully it’ll be sounding a lot better man. Hopefully get round to doing it tomorrow as there’s no football on!

No other dramas mate, but I’d already normalized that track, which should have corrected the DC offset and presumably removed the hiss, but doesn’t seem to have done so. Gonna have a bash at re-doing it tomorrow, so will hopefully get to the bottom of it then dude.
