I’ve heard of the “Londonistan” book but me and my mates use the term for different reasons…. to represent a capital turned into a warzone by constant state interference and the anger of many groups of “young warlords”, not just one..
Melanie Phillips is someone who started out as a liberal and has now moved to the loony fringe of the Christian right; and is a very vocal campaigner against cannabis decriminalisation and an advocate of increased social controls.

was that one of the 21 quid TENS licenses? If you can get any more details about how they got the license and whether they had any snags / what they had to discuss with cops/councils it would be good to post it on here so others can learn from their experiences…
September 10, 2006 at 3:44 pm #1089196yeah it was one of the new tens licences, i didnt know about it till the night an was battered by the time i got there so i didnt think about asking, ill ask next time i c the boys,
i know they talked to the local concil to get the licence, it was a birthday party not just a random event so im sure that helped,
it was on farm land with agreement from the owners, and if you could be arsed to walk 15mins i think you were allowed to use their toilet:wink:
i doubt the cops wud have busted it anyway as it was well out of the way the nearest village has the all night drone of the A10 an near by M11 so they cudnt hear it an could only just be heard from the next village in the other direction but better safe than sorry
i think more and more of these will be popping up although they did have a scare of the licence being revoked at the last minute (probably heard they were playin psy trance) an ive heard of other events having their licence taken back at the last minute, usually health & safety because of fire hazzods

I can understand some of the worries as with high power electrics, smokers and inflammable decor (or even wooden buildings such as barns!) there is a potential fire risk but the Councils should not use “health and safety” as a catchall to stop events to pander to the nimbys; its not only unfair but devalues genuine safety concerns.
September 11, 2006 at 10:08 am #1089192excuse my ignorance but how would playing psytrance almost lose them their licence?:groucho:

September 11, 2006 at 10:15 am #1089193ok – maybe they should have put disco on the license form?

doesn’t stop the nimbys looking for flyers and calling the local bobby though… this area is full of “silver surfers” who seem to get hold of a PC with their retirement money and then spend the dog-end of their lives looking for things to complain about..
At least the Council realises its better to let these events happen than stop them at the last minute and risk an unlicensed event happening elsewhere..
