You actually get a thread which stimulates a bit of discussion and debate (and probably got more posts just this morning than the whole rest of the board yesterday) on this forum, and it get’s locked?
Right, well never mind, I’ll go and discuss the colour of my socks on that thread then. Hopefully that won’t be too contoversial.
September 14, 2006 at 11:32 am #1089680We will never be able to agree, and people will start to get mad at eachother..
No point in that..September 14, 2006 at 12:04 pm #1089673angel wrote:We will never be able to agree, and people will start to get mad at eachother..
No point in that..it had become an acrimonious argument over the rights and wrongs of a single campaign, and peoples individual responses to this campaign rather than a real discussion over the actual threats facing vulnerable people and society which are sometimes discussed in other threads on here.
only two threads have ever been locked out of over 19,000. I can’t even remember where the last one is, it was that long ago!
If you were a CCTV operator in a city and you saw a big fight developing – would you let it happen because it would make a good reality TV show, or would you pick up your radio handset and alert the cops and wardens to deal with it before people got hurt?
September 14, 2006 at 12:09 pm #1089675I think the main reason for the thread being locked is that all points had been covered. All that would happen would be people reiterating what had already been said before and people would start to get pi5sed off because nobody is prepared to back down.
I think it is a good thread and has lots of valid and well thought out opinions but it could not go any further. The thread is still there for people to read, it has not been censored. It is not “too controversial” it is simply something that will go round in circles and reads better as it is.
The way I see it, partyvibe deals with a lot of issues that most other forums pretend don’t exist and prefer to sweep under the carpet.
September 14, 2006 at 5:25 pm #1089677ok i agree with that yeah….thanks to everyone who signed it ….xxx A:love:
September 14, 2006 at 5:55 pm #1089681I guess the reason it was posted was to advertise the campaign – which it has done and can still be done – as the thread is there for people to read and sign up to if they choose.
September 14, 2006 at 7:46 pm #1089678like so many of the issues around abuse – sexual, mental and physical there are very strong feeling on the subject
i am against abuse of any kind – i wont tolerate it in my presence without comment – there is no need for it and no excuse good enough to abuse anyone for
September 14, 2006 at 10:15 pm #1089676Anonymousi think that it was right ot lock the threas a) because it was getting emotive, and wasnt a real debate about the law, more the campaign the sun was running and the disgustingly manipulative campaign it was running. and b) the fornt page of teh debate was aforementioned campaign, so in a way all that was happening was publicity for the sun, i dont think most of us want that.
so i think a new thread should be started actually debating the merits of sarahs law, because some think that it is dangerous and against human rights, and others think it is essential. the last thing this site about is sensorship, but sometime sdebate just needs a little moderation. i wasnt about when the thread was posted, but having read it i recognise similar threads ive been involved in that have got out of hand and became irresovable, because they were built on shakey foundations.

No point in that..here’s a funny thing that my late father used to say
“If two people agree on everything that is said then there will be very little to talk about”
there is a point in getting mad at each other
it furthers debate
it widens our understanding

well said mate :bounce_fl:bounce_fl:bounce_fl:bounce_fl
ignoring the issues we dont agree on is not going to widen anyone’s undestanding of them
