March 27, 2008 at 7:10 pm #1155673does maca root have a side effect that you turn into a scouser and then you write twee commercial pop songs about frogs etc, then you get with a one legged horse-face bint who rinses you for half your cash?

They werent the cheapest thing on the shelf but most of the others I have tried at some point and they didnt work as well.
I got mine from the Jan de Vries shop in Edinburgh but I am sure other places stock them.
Just did a wee bit extra research into them….they aren’t very natural at all.
Quote:Niacin (as Niacinamide)…20 mg
Biotin…100 mcg
Calcium
(as Calcium Amino Acid Chelate)…500 mg
Magnesium
(as Magnesium Amino Acid Chelate)…500 mg
Inositol…200 mg
Passionflower (Leaf and Flower)
(Passiflora incarnata) …200 mg
Blue Vervain (Aerial Parts)
(Verbena hastata) …200 mg
Hops Flower (Humulus lupulus) …100 mg
Valerian Root
(Valeriana officinalis) …100 mg
Wild Lettuce (Leaf)
(Lactuca quercina) 100 mgDicalcium Phosphate, Magnesium Stearate and Stearic Acid.
To replace the Niacin I would probably replace that with either a small quantity of brewers yeast or kill two birds with one stone and replace the magnesium sterate (the filler chemical) with a small ammount of wholegrain flower for the vitamin B3.
To replace the biotin I’d probably go for ground oatmeal for the vitamin H/B7 (same thing)
I think raspberry leaf has a high concentration of calcium, which is a bit more natural than Calcium Amino Acid Chelate.
The magnesium could be found from wheat germ.
Inositol I’d replace with griffonia extract as I’m assuming they are aiming at the serotonin boosting qualities and not the cytoskeleton development associated with insitol.
I’d probably, if I had any extra space grind a wee bit o’ bee pollen and spirulina just for that added repleneshment of all those nutrients caned during the day.
Anyway I’ll experiment on Monday and I can make up a pile of different mixes for you to try. I love doing this as its a great learning experience for me. I don’t like prescription drugs as the companies are all bastards so I want to learn what I can about how to avoid them.
