I know a few of you will have seen Gordon Ramseys program of the name of this thread. Just think back to the states you saw some of the kitchens…
Ok now I have set the image in your head I will carry on, I am friends with the land lord and the head chef of my local pub and I have been helping them out since they got the pub back in April. They seem to be completely oblivious to any food and hygiene law there is, this is both in the kitchen and the bar.
Well I have spent the whole time they have had the pub advising them and trying to clean the place to make it hygienic. I have warned them every week that someone is going to get ill eating or drinking from this pub, They rest the clean glass trays on top of the open bins, I am forever throwing out food that has grown some funky hair cuts and gone some proper psychedelic colours, the fridge seals are full of rotting food, the floor looks like it only ever gets cleaned by me. I have advised all my friends and family not to eat in there, some is going to be seriously ill from this place.
I feel a right c**t as I called the environmental health office and they are sending an EHO out to do an inspection next week, I am now in two minds whether to tell them to give them time to sort thier acts out or to leave it and let them get the full brunt of it.
I feel harsh as this could f**k them both up, but this is my village pub and I am seriously concerned for the health of the people who eat there.
Do you think I should warn them??
August 28, 2008 at 6:55 pm #1178437No. You have done your best, now let the proper authorities do their work.
The EHOs tend to give people at least one chance, and even if they lose their business and you lose some friends, you have still done the right thing.
A lot of my relatives work in NHS South Central. They are stretched to the limit at weekends, they have to pick up the pieces if anyone gets ill and every taxpayer has to pay for it.
August 28, 2008 at 7:01 pm #1178453Questions may be asked as to why you have not reported it when you knew they were in the wrong. I would cover your own back and write a report stating you have (try and remember dates/occasions etc) when you have spoken to them and its gone unheeded.
best to cover your own arse mate 🙂
August 28, 2008 at 7:06 pm #1178438be aware also that if there is the slightest chance the people you turned in know of your weekend activities or that you use this site, they have every right to notify TVP you may be a recreational drug user as a tit for tat action.
Of course cops can’t nick you without evidence, but I’d be careful what is stashed in the house and when exiting from or going to venues….

Well I think they know about my weekend antics, well the head chef there does but that is fine… He would know better than to start a stupid tit for tat war with me, it would likely screw him over. They are both over 40 and are not very computer literate either.
I would never keep any drugs or drug paraphernalia in my house or car as I know better than that, its not something I would get caught out with I dont think.

I am not there any more and I told the EHO that I have been helping there as a favour, I told them that I have been trying my hardest and warning them about the standards.
Once I had been in the kitchen I would leave it in a state that an EHO would be happy with (well minus the door seals and some other equipment that damaged cleaning is impossible) but a week later I would be finding mouldy food again and it would be a shit hole.
I do have a feeling that I am going to be fucked over for something by them, but realistically its the only thing I can do. But no one knows I have reported them well apart from a friend who has also put in a complaint as she worked there.
The EHO did say my name would not be mentioned at all and it will remain anonymous.
August 28, 2008 at 7:39 pm #1178440EHOs are usually very good to people to work with and absolute bast’rds if you try and ignore them. TBH I can completely understand why you did it.
Do be whiter than white at home etc – clean out anything which could be in any way incriminating as it would be a right nightmare to get shopped and something was found

you didn’t tell me this when i ate there :hopeless: .. lol .. but in all seriosness .. you did the right thing .. i used to work as a chef and i know how important this stuff is .. i have quit jobs because of the hygine in kitchens i have worked in b4 .. sadly alot of kitchens just dont give a fuck about this kind of stuff .. especialy when alot of the staff are getting paied minimum or close to minimum wage .. they them selves just dont give a crap .. tbh .. there is no point in warning them as all that will happen is they will get a warning to sought it out b4 a revisit .. that should give them the kick up the ass htey need .. if it is that bad .. they will get closed down untill they fix it .. but it has to be really .. and i meen really bad for them to do that .. and they will be able to reopen after ..i think they only shut kithens down perminently if they ignore the warnings given to them .. no wonder i got lost on the way back from uktek after that psycadelic colored burger you cooked me :laugh_at:

I knew it was going to be very busy and I was not allowing them to make a huge fuck up…
August 29, 2008 at 5:58 am #1178442In Denmark we get health control (not sure about the name) visiting all places that serves food twice a year and they just turn up one day, so you really can’t just clean everything 2 days before they are supposed to come.
Never know when they’ll be there, so the hygiene in every places I have ever worked have been good.
Not sure if you use the smilie system in UK but we get a smilie
and the paper with the smilie have to be placed in the reception for all guests to seeAugust 29, 2008 at 6:00 am #1178443And SL..
You did the right thing,I would do the same
August 29, 2008 at 9:14 am #1178454You’ve done the right thing Star. If they lack the respect for their customers by ignoring hygiene protocols then they need to receive a complete bollocking.
If you warn them then the cycle will continue and someone will get ill. Personally I’d just sit back and watch the whole show go off! 😉

August 30, 2008 at 3:05 am #1178449JonnyQuest;233480 wrote:ah comon man NEVER GRASS should do somthing bout this man cant fuck people up like thatI wouldn’t normally, but if you look at it this way. On average they are cooking 60+ meals a day, so this is a fuck load of people who are eating food which can be damaging to their health. I have warned them on numerous occasions about the standards, I don’t want people I know getting ill because two blokes are incapable of hygienically running a pub.
If you got ill eating somewhere dodgy you would kick up a stick, I am saving someone the fucking horrible feeling that is food poisoning….

August 30, 2008 at 5:43 pm #1178444JonnyQuest;233480 wrote:ah comon man NEVER GRASS should do somthing bout this man cant fuck people up like thatsomething as ‘simple’ as food poisoning (or flu etc)
can kill an elderly person / child who’s body isnt up to fighting it
if you can do something to improve this I think in this occasion it is ok to contact the health authorities –the management should be keeping a clean kitchen as a matter of daily standard and they are at fault for not doing so –
August 30, 2008 at 7:09 pm #1178450I have given them a load of information on how to run a food establishment and also shown them where they can get their hygiene training… I am meeting with them tomorrow as they want me to meet up with them and have a chat, I also gave them a huge letter explaining the severity of hygiene of the place
August 30, 2008 at 9:59 pm #1178472I don’t know how it is there, but in the US, if health inspectors give an unfavorable review of a restaurant’s cleanliness and general condition, there’s typically a probation period for the the restaurant owners to clean everything up, fix any code violations, etc.
You shouldn’t feel like a snitch for calling this in. Regardless of your intentions, even if you had called the authorities out of spite, you’d still be doing something good for all the people who eat there and ultimately, you might be saving your friend the trouble of a lawsuit sometime down the road.
