not had any for ages but it doesn’t suprise me and I haven’t much sympathy for dysfunctional American corporates anyway… its slightly ironic given your new username and political views you are putting money in their pockets
if you must eat “fast food” (and as someone working in IT who lives alone I wholly understand you may not always have time to cook) then you’re better off using one or more of the local fast food businesses of the sort normally run as family businesses where the people are usually well treated and passionate about making decent food.. Many of these places, whether they cook “British” or “foreign” food increasingly use local ingredients and suppliers (or have always done so anyway).

October 6, 2009 at 7:11 pm #1207898In Malaysia (where my extended family and ancestors are from), its often claimed that the national sport is eating :laugh_at:

oh ethically its totally unjustifiable, as its smoking tobacco, using cocaine and many other things really. Weed production is probably at best terrible for the environment, energy production wise alone.
Local KFC type places tend to be terrible in my experience and overpriced comparatively (economy of scale and all that) and Asian food wise takeaways are just too expensive for me.
Real problem is all these things (including KFC) are just so morish! Must try harder though *nods*
October 6, 2009 at 7:12 pm #1207921KFC is usually shit. apart from popcorn chicken, Man i love that stuff.
Although the last time i had popcorn chicken i almost choked to death.

Do you live in the SE England/West London corridor area or any other similar area where there are a lot of affluent British Asians who may be pushing up the price? I did notice this to an extent when in Reading…. I haven’t been in a fast food place for years but hadn’t noticed too much of a price increase in East Anglia. This is however a place where the biggest poultry processing farms are and chicken and ducks run around loose in some streets :laugh_at:

I am South East about 30 mins from london in quite a posh area in a way I spose. For example a Curry would be 7-8 pounds but then rice is 2 pounds and then you have your extra’s. Same sort of price for the Chinese. Only compromise really is rich and chicken from the Chinese which is 6 pounds but its not exactly very exciting, no sauce to speak of. KFC big meal is under a fiver.
tbh though its not very often I get takeaway so I am not too worried, but access to cheap Asian food would be lovely. I’v also given up smoking, hardly smoke weed and never touch coke so I am not doing too badly in some ways.

thats about £2-£3 dearer than Ipswich prices, although I think my estate is surrounded by takeaways which means competition drives down prices..

this is one of the best collections of recipes, with the cookery tips seemingly aimed at young single males..

thanks I will have a look at that, was thinking of trying to cook some curry with the misses one weekend. Its just the cost of all those spices, but a good investment, just initial cost.
October 6, 2009 at 7:44 pm #1207953KFC in Reading is shite.
The chips were soggy, and the special 99p street wise menu they were promoting a few months ago was a rip off, I ordered a chicken twist and it was tiny, definately not worth the money they charge!

Curry is easy to make mate. Doesn’t cost that much ingredient wise, Just have a look in Asda or something for the spices, or get curry paste. Makes it that much easier.
I will say one thing though, get a decent wok. 😉

Have done Thai curry’s like that, they went half bad actually. *hunts for wok*
October 6, 2009 at 8:02 pm #1207955i’ve never had a kfc.
it doesn’t look very appetising to me… though spark_plug has said we can go and get one one day.

that has definitely gone downhill as it used to be OK once (although I’m probably going back 10 years now…) – then again so has Reading, which is why I moved 150 miles East :laugh_at:
Whilst Asda may not immediately spring to mind as the most “multicultural” of shops, their UK HQ is based in a part of the North with a fairly large British Asian community. I think the specialist Asian grocer is unfortunately falling into decline, as younger folks from my generation onwards no longer wanted to work in shops, and end up counting stuff and fixing peoples computers / telephones instead :laugh_at:

October 6, 2009 at 8:21 pm #1207933kfc is absolute filth, i do like the boneless banquets until i finish it and feel extremely ill.
