Ha ha, I think that was the intention of the title mate. Stevie Hyper was awesome though, sad loss man.
‘Junglists are you ready? Bo! Oh lord have mercy!’
March 22, 2013 at 12:16 pm #1269913as to their credit neither Auntie nor copyright feds are kicking up a stink about this site, I suggest everyone who is into jungle tries to not just download the sets, but make a copy onto a long lasting backup media. the way things are going in 10-20 years time someone from BBC Caversham is going to sheepishly ask “have any listeners got copies of these shows from the 1990s?” as BBC routinely delete old archives now because they don’t want the hassle of cataloguing and storing them, even with todays cheap storage….
the way things are going in a few decades these will probably get played on loudspeakers to the workers in East Anglia and Sussex’s paddy fields, to keep up their morale whilst they are up to the knees in muddy water with geese and ducks honking around them… (what do you think will happen when the arctic melts, all that water has to go somewhere)

Ha ha, when they start playing DnB on radio 2, we are officially all old and past it man!
March 22, 2013 at 12:38 pm #1269922Good point GL – not only a useful site to listen to – but best get saving them. I have at least three One in the Jungle shows on tape from back in the day, but suppose I ought to follow my own suggestion and pillage this lot too!

That is almost certain to happen in less than 5 years. Already there are documentary shows discussing EDM on radio 2, loggy linked to one.

I think some of their older listeners’ll be horrified when that happens mate, it was a big enough culture shock for them when Chris Evans took over from Terry Wogan, can you imagine what’ll happen if Ken Bruce gets replaced by Mampi Swift?

They can just bugger off and listen to “this is heart” type stations instead. Radio 2 is licensed to serve those starting from just over age 35 but there is no reason younger people cannot listen to it as well.
EDM being played on a “older adults” station is no bad thing if folk want these music genres to survive in increasingly harsh economic times where in some parts of our country EDM events are rarely licensed, as it gets the music out to older listeners who are more likely to pay for their downloads etc and/or support their children (when they have them) in getting involved in a music scene.
I know many old jazz enthusiasts age 50 and above who like drum and bass and other dance genres and therefore don’t judge their sons and daughters when they play it loud.

LOL! Heart FM – the same 5 songs, all day long!
March 22, 2013 at 3:45 pm #1269921Gimmie some good old southern FM 103.5, my homework days filled with Terry Garagans last bus to whitehawk.

Fuckin’ hell mate, last bus to Whitehawk, there’s a blast from the past! Was quite a good show though.

yep and worse still because they don’t want to buy more playout system licenses they send the same playlist down the line to 5 separate stations, and get the presenters to voicetrack the announcements (so they can do 3 shows work in one shift), those who get paid at all get paid a fucking pittance and its 100% robot radio…
to be fair Auntie still try and do as much live presentation as possible which is why I don’t begrudge paying my license fee..
And why shouldn’t mampi swift do the breakfast show? Armin Van Buuren not only does the famous 538 shows but he turned up on their equivalent of Radio 4Today programme and had a proper intellectual interview with this middle aged Dutch journalist about the music and radio industry and how Armin felt there should be more opportunities for younger people from all backgrounds and more girls/women in the industry..

Heart FM sucks mate, they may be called heart, but they have no soul whatsoever! As for Mampi Swift doing the R2 breakfast show, I reckon that’d be ace.
It doesn’t surprise me that AvB turned up on a show like that, especially with what I’ve learnt about him from some of your previous posts. He’s one seriously clever fella man, didn’t you say he’s rumoured to have got his degree from Oxford?

he may have two degrees, a batchelors degree from Leiden in NL and a masters from Oxford (or somewhere else in England). Given he speaks English with a very posh accent he must have been educated at a fairly prestigious place round here.

2? Fucking hell, I don’t know if that’s impressive or greedy! The closest most people over here get to 2 degrees is the temperature outside at the moment!
March 22, 2013 at 8:20 pm #1269918I always thought it was fairly normal for brainy people to get a bachelors degree (the normal 3 year on) and a masters taken after this? or some others take professional qualifications during their first job after their bachelors degree. I know loads of people from “rat salad park” (BT research labs) who have done this..

As usual mate, you have a very good point there. I know that always used to be the case, not sure whether it remains so today, think most people never wish to do another course again after doing their bachelors degree (judging by those I know who’ve done degree courses anyway!).
March 22, 2013 at 8:31 pm #1269919if you refer to cheeseweasels comments about mickey mouse degrees you will see why 😉

I seem to have a vague recollection of seeing said comments at the time and thinking how much they rang true now you mention it mate. Sure there should be some punctuation somewhere in that last sentence of mine!
