Scary how little most of us know about our ‘rights’ when it comes to things like this, I certainly wouldn’t know all the ins and outs when it came down to it. Then again it shouldn’t be our responsibility to learn their archaic bollocks laws, but that’s the way it is. What’s worse than us not knowing our rights is the cops not knowing the law themselves and/or even acting outside of the law.
Sorry for hijacking the thread with a rant, what I really wanted to say was that the lovely people Release (A dead sound drugs / law / human rights charity) have got a ‘bust card’ that you can you can download and print off.

click the “Free Download” button.or just read online: http://www.release.org.uk/html/~master_menu/Bust_Card.php
sorry again!x

July 13, 2007 at 8:58 am #1115108I was lucky enough to have a Release solicitor in the cop shop when I had a brush, he was brilliant, the cops didn’t even try pushing anything beyond “personal” it was like they knew it wasn’t worth the effort 😀 On the random search thing, I know there was a push to keep an eye on train and bus stations as they were becoming a popular alternative to private transport due to anonymity.

July 13, 2007 at 11:12 am #1115117Is it true that if asked, an undercover cop must admit he’s a cop (say, if hes undercover at a festival or music event or something)?

i always feel intimidated, im sure many others do, when talking or near to a police officer. i was walking home from the local a month or so ago, there running a local asbo scheme so the police have been round a fair bit, i was walking across the field which was pitch black when i saw two figures, just under 6 foot, both of them acting suspicously around the park area (i was about 100 metres away, visibility wasnt great) they were walking out of the park (now about 50 metres) i coughed (had a mega bad chest), they changed direction and came towards me at some pace. my adrenal gland went into overdrive and i must of looked like i was up to no good. it wasnt until (about 5 metres away) they said ”police, stay where you are” i knew it was them so purely terrified i was questioned and told i had been acting suspicously and was searched before being sent on my way. wankers.
