we all change how we deal with different people / situations by being different parts of ourself, whether we are aware of it or not. everybody has different experiences and values so finding some common way to communicate is essential

even if you feel that there are a few people you are totally close to and it is only them you are yourself with, i disagree, because you aren’t showing them the sides of yourself that you show other people… you are acting differently with them too

i guess it might hard to say what ‘yourself’ means

That’s true. I guess you could say that you are always “yourself” as you are reacting to the situation as YOURSELF the way YOU would deal with it. Whether that be changing your normal persona or not you still yourself reacting to the situation.

I think you are (as globaloon said) always showing some aspect of yourself even if you are “trying to be someone else”, but there are as raj said ways of putting on masks in “work” situations…

it is possible to an extent to be “someone you are not” but takes a heavy toll (I remember reading somewhere that “deep cover” cops/spies/customs people often need counselling because of the mental impact of this..)

                              had to think about this

                              i am always 100% myself

i am me at work, me with friends an family, me when i’m nervous (meeting new people or in a challenging situation), me when i’m being crappy and me when i’m on form

in certain situations i’m great, in others i might be awful but its always all me

                              make sense?

think I like they way this makes sense to me,

I also sat and thought and whether I am shy in an unfarmiliar place or comfortable with my best mates, or rowing with my partner – I am myself – I have degree’s of a ‘mask’ I use to protect myself and my privacy but even at work I am known to be me and an individual, despite the different levels of conformaty needed in some aspects of it and I can also get into difficulties when people dont ‘get’ me

have taken a long time to get where I am and be comfortable with myslef and certain aspects of the party scene helped me with this in particular with my confidence or previous lack of it
