So, what’s the verdict from everyone?
People are bound to be highly critical of the Prodigy due to their success and their “celebrity” status. They often divide opinion and they have been losing respect on the underground circuit for a while. Especially as music gets more and more compartmentalised and everyone seems to be using their choice in dance music as an identity badge.
What do you think of the new album?
Personally I don’t think it breaks any boundaries like Experience & Jilted Generation did and it seems to take a lot from current breakbeat and (dare I say it) Nu-Rave sounds but, music snobbery aside, as a balls out up front arena style soundtrack it does the job nicely and I’d be happy to see them doing this on tour.

Tell me what you think of the new album?

ive listened to 3 or 4 of the songs so i dont have a proper opinion yet, but i think it sounds pretty damn terrible
March 8, 2009 at 3:29 pm #1194657not heard much but quite liked that warriors dance tune.
saying that 3 listens later its sounding a bit dull.
and the invaders must die single is getting pretty annoying, but mainly cos i have to endure radio 1 all day at work and they rinse it.
March 8, 2009 at 4:09 pm #1194659Good timing with the poll. Just got this the other day. It Rocks! (tho ‘Experience’ was responsible for making me go to my first illegal in ’92. And my mother would still like a word with them bout dat )
Until last night, i had to make do with recording onto cassette and listening on van stereo at work. Last night, bout midnight, just switched TV off, and whacked it up on me stereo. (Sorry neighbours – the ‘URGE’ suddenly took over!) Good to listen to it properly at last.
I’m sure the whole listening experience was enhanced by the late hour and possible ‘wrongness’ – hmm does this make me ‘BAD’ i wonder. I try to be good – but those Prodigy ppl, just drag me down again 😉
Was trying to mop the kitchen floor whilst dancing to ‘Thunder’ – fun combination of fancy footwork that was. Amazing tune – Mmmm, dem basslines get me! Ended up nearly breaking my neck slipping on the wet floor :laugh_at::crazy_dru Check the vid for it if u’ve not heard it yet

Great album, seems to have quite a few different sounds n styles going on. Some familiar oldskool riffs, some rock, a chilled out tune, some punk, a slight spattering of cheesy Trumpton (NOT a bad thing imo),breakbeats, house, grimey sounds too. quite varied i think. Love ‘Omen’ – also have the EP for that – 5 versions, good stuff, and that ‘Take me Away’ tune, can’t remember title at mo, cd is downstairs and i’m a lazy biaatch 2day!) – but that tune is fookin awesome, it does indeed take me away, in a backward stylee, to a warehouse many many years ago. To the dancefloor. Cos that’s what it’s for! 😉Got the bonus tracks edition (iTunes) – track 14 is a talk through of the tracks. I like that.
Anyway, that’s my initial reaction. Am still ‘discovering’ the album at the mo. Will report back if i need to elaborate!
Plurry hurgz to all :group_hugMarch 8, 2009 at 11:01 pm #1194673Indifferent, purely because it was such an anticlimax.
March 8, 2009 at 11:54 pm #1194664that thunder tune to me is yaaaaaaawn, people will buy it and like it because they dont know any better good hard dance music.

That’s music snobbery in action right there. If you don’t like it because it’s unoriginal and boring to you then that’s totally understandable. To suggest that people who do enjoy it are mindless uneducated morons because they haven’t heard anything better is like suggesting that the peasant working class enjoy fish and chips because they haven’t had the chance to eat caviar.
To bastardise a popular cliché, beauty in music is in the ear of the beholder. If someone enjoys it then surely that’s the kind of music that does it for them, don’t try and force feed them your “superior” music, convinced that they will like it if they just spend a bit of time listening to it.
You what? Your favourite colour is red? Are you some kind of idiot? Blue is clearly more original and meaningful.

lol mate chill out, i meant they dont know any other dance or where 2 get it.:crazy_diz
March 9, 2009 at 1:11 pm #1194654Maybe you did mean it that way but it’s still hinting at the same kind of attitude. I see it all the time and it was general attack at that kind of attitude, not just what you had said. Sorry if you felt I was directing it all at you.
I used to be like it too. I used to think I was more “in the know” or “underground” than others for liking certain types of music when I was younger. Then I realised who the f**k am I to decide what other people should and shouldn’t like. If your brain hears music and decides it likes it then why does it need someone else to come along and point out why they shouldn’t like it and why other music is better.
Saying a track/artist/genre is shit I have no probs with, but taking the piss out of others for liking it or trying to force your music on others “for their own good” is utter rubbish. I’m not suggesting you are doing this Polygon-window, I’m just having a random rant about many people’s backward opinions.
*EDIT* Ok… taking the piss out of people for their choice in music isn’t so bad, it’s harmless banter and I’ve certainly indulged in a bit of that before.*
March 9, 2009 at 1:40 pm #1194666but u must get what i was trying to say, the sort of people who dont really listen to dance music but liked fire starter…… hahaha
March 9, 2009 at 4:19 pm #1194661Happy hardcore is better. Let the banter commence! :laugh_at:
March 9, 2009 at 4:30 pm #1194660It’s OK, I bought it and listened to it once. They’ve pretty much just rehashed all the well-known prodigy sounds from the first two albums and stuck bigger drums over the top with some cheesy halloween lyrics. I have no problem with it, but it’s nothing new. Favourite track is Warrior’s Dance, although its been mixed really shit (presumably on purpose to make it sound like an old hardcore vinyl?). Thing is there are so many quality producers making better breaks at the moment (eg. Far Too Loud, NAPT, Rektchordz…) that the prodigy are just nothing special.
Prodigy are never going to be the groundbreaking rave act they once were, partly cos they’re old, partly cos times have changed and partly cos when bands get that big there are so many record company people and various other investors who all have their say in how it sounds. Like someone probably said to Liam “you’re the prodigy, you’re scary and dark, that’s your thing, so you need to make all your songs about wolves and thunder and dark magic. And Pendulum seem popular with the kids right now so throw a bit of that in there too. And according to the t-shirts rave is back in fashion so try work some of your old material into it,” and he did what he was told.
