June 19, 2007 at 3:18 pm #1113741in most cases if you take your mobile phone to a foreign country, you first need to tell your mobile operator you are doing this so it will work across borders.
it will then sign on to one of the local networks there.
people in your home country pay their normal rates to call you -but you are charged for the “roamed” part of the conversation from your home countries network to the country you are in.
This can be expensive – €0.50 – €1.50 per minute depending on your contract!
Dialling out is also expensive unless you have some special contract deals, and in some cases you need to remember to dial the full international number or you will end up calling some random in the local country rather than your friends back home!
