Indeed. they have drifted so far away from the psytrance scene, I don’t even think they know who they are anymore.

While I’m probably biased since I have worked with the guys for about five years, I am also very respectful of people’s opinions when it comes to music. I mainly DJ tech & progressive house/trance, but I have a tremendous amount of respect for IM. Just wanted to make a few friendly points…
-Why knock anyone for always trying new things? I think innovation should be encouraged in music, it’s the only way to progress genres… And sure they started out as Psy, but they still incorporate a Psy twist to all of their tunes, why should anyone be stuck doing what they did years and years ago? It would be wrong to pigeonhole experimentation should always be applauded in my opinion – this is why I dig making chill out music, an attempt at trying something different – the very thing that has brought their niche project to the forefront of the global dance music scene over the last 15 years.
-Empirically when IM has tried new things, or experimented with new sounds, their fan base goes into shock. “Becoming Insane” caused a frenzy among the IM loyal when it first came out, and now it is one of their most popular tunes. While it is true the first single ‘URSF’ was not the typical IM sound, it has been destroying dance floors, and incorporates Reggae in the breakdown among other styles, including Psy, something you don’t always hear in standard ‘step’ music. Their recent single ‘Nation of Wusses’ is Trance, not dub-step at all. The new album is a mixed back of solid tunes and it hit number 1 in the iTunes Dance Music Album charts in many countries when it came out a few weeks ago, including in America… and on the Beatport album charts too.
-Last thing I will say is this: The IM live show as you knew it (with the band) is an endangered species, ergo this Sutra DJ set… this year Infected will be debuting a new stage production for a hefty US tour to coincide with the album launch… I have seen the stages for Daft Punk, Skrillex, Deadmau5, and many more… I think this new chapter will be very well received… a step back into the world of EDM. Check out this clip teasing their brand new 3d mapped stage production – over a million views – they “don’t know who they are anymore??” I think they are just hitting their stride…

“So far away from the psytrance scene now”?? The new album and live show features their 2012 update of their old popular Psy tune with Jorg ‘The Messenger’
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lmy7zWZBW14These guys are hard working, talented musicians (and family guys with kids) who are constantly trying to evolve their music. IM isn’t for everyone AND all people are for sure entitled to their own feelings, but to brush them off as garbage I think is a bit misguided. Anyway, always down for a friendly music discussion.
Best regards,
RandyJuly 5, 2012 at 11:11 pm #1253992Cool man, cheers for the insight. May I take the opertunaty to ask you a question about them that you may be able to answer. What does the bald guy do?? (other tha providing vocals and genrally dossing around smoking all the weed) LOL Nah i’m serious does he actually produce any of the tune. Cos on the making of vids he seems to be fairly open that he dopesn’t have the “fingers” for the keyboard. So does he know how to make samples etc
July 6, 2012 at 1:37 am #1254017its like with all these types, tiesto, skrillex, britney spears, IM… the music is burning the candle at both ends and the end is my patience so we appreciated the gimmick, and it was kind of artistic for a while, but now its like *yaaaawwwwn* so jog on 😉
July 6, 2012 at 8:31 am #1253993That new gig does look better TBH. But I bet the tickets cost a fair bit. I could bet the same experiences from a gram of K and some DMT. LOL Nah does look good though
July 6, 2012 at 8:51 am #1253994The long hair dude has some proppa skills on the keyboard though.

July 6, 2012 at 9:16 am #1254012If only the first vid that randy posted actually sounded like the production coming from infected mushroom. Life would be so much easier to deal with if I didn’t have to work out what was an advert and what was actual music. ;(
They have a very nice camera in that vid (and a good editor). Such ashame their music’s totally shit now days. :laugh_at:
July 6, 2012 at 12:34 pm #1253995I thought randy might have been a PR guy for infected mushroom and has been sent out to the forums to raise awareness of the new tour. LOL i’m only playing about randy BTW
July 6, 2012 at 3:38 pm #1254023Sounds to mainstream for my liking….Go back to stuff like “the Gathering”
July 6, 2012 at 8:13 pm #1254018also find it jarring how like these n shpongle n that have drugs as like their ‘poetic content’… its like yeh its so cool that its music about drugs, like get over yourselves, we know what to do, just make music that sounds good and stop banging on about mushrooms or whatever… also their gimicky noise are so jarring, when i hear it i just switch off straight away, just like with skrillex or whatever… its inspector gadget music.
July 6, 2012 at 9:11 pm #1253996I find that IM can be quite good. My first proppa acid and ket adventures had IM involved and clasical mushroom has some great sounds. But as you say it can become a bit jarring and lame.

July 7, 2012 at 9:58 pm #1253990As someone who isn’t really a big fan of psy-trance I haven’t followed IM too closely but know of their work and respect them as producers. They seem to be trying out new stuff and having fun with the music. Don’t really understand why everyone is hating them so much. Maybe I’m just getting too old.
