Greetings all,
Just thought I’d do the polite thing and say hi to all. Had an eye on this site (and SJ) since I went to my first free parties in the tail end of last summer, but this is my first post.
Looking forward to some phat parties in the summer.
Take it easy all.

April 6, 2005 at 1:12 pm #1064920Hi guys,
Cheers for the hug funny cat! It could never be sad to be obsessed with Cookie Monster!!
Prior to last summer my music was all rock/indie/hip-hop/trip-hop/big beat and a bit of drum and bass. Thought D&B would be my thing on the free party scene untill I went to Tribe of Munt party in feb and disvovered (acid)techno. Other than that open to anything really. Not really too up on the difinitions of dance music, but looking to learn!
Hi USE. Read some of your posts on a thread re: the environment on SJ a while ago. Thought you made some good points. My plan is to do an environmental science masters next year, and then go save the world! Reading quite an interesting book on the subject at the moment if your interested?
Teleportation device sounds good. I’ll get my physics mates on the case.
April 6, 2005 at 1:23 pm #1064918Anonymouswoah! environmental science masters? heavy gubbins…the more knowledge we have about what the hell is actually going on with our planet and how much of it is actually us, the better. i didn’t quite finishuni, too much beef with the system (or shot myself in the foot, one of the two) so i’m goin for a renegade approach to life at the mo.
if you ever need a hand saving the world, gimme a shout. i’m well up for that :biggreen:
one of the top people i’ve readon how to sort the wold out is Buckminster Fuller, who was just a total all-round don. he wrote a book (among others) called: “Utopia or Oblivion : The prospects for humanity” which is just wicked (even tho some of it sailed over my head) what are you reading at the mo?
April 6, 2005 at 1:28 pm #1064915hi cookie
is environmental science geology / meteorlogical stuff?
or does it include the human impact on eco-systems?
excuse my ignorance
April 6, 2005 at 1:46 pm #1064921Hi USE,
At uni I did an economics degree, and in my final year realised I actually hate the subject and want nothing to do with it. Decided that i want to feel like I am doing something helpful and productive with my life, not just helping to make the person above me richer. Hence the decision to do the masters.
The book I’m reading is called ‘How We Can Save The Planet’ by mayer Hillman (see link to Amazon below – had to look it up as I couldn’t remember author’s name!). It’s split into three sections, the problem, current action, and finally required action. I’ve just finished the first section, but it has some interesting revelations and dispells some commonly held myths. It seems to be very practical, with realalistic solutions which we can all partake in (or so it says, haven’t got to that bit yet).

Will check out the book you mention when I’m finished with this one.
How’s being a renegade working out for you? Sounds so much more exciting than my current job title of ‘accounts assistant’. Incidentally accounts is the last area I wanted to work when I was doing my degree, yet here I am. At least it’s only till i get some Uni debt paid off so I can start my course. Do you have a nice wad of debt from your time at uni?
April 6, 2005 at 1:54 pm #1064922Hi Globalloon,
Environmental science can cover various aspects from what I can tell. When I was checking out courses the focus of the course varied from one institution to the next.
Some were focused the on geological / meteorlogical proper science stuff, others on human impact on eco-systems, and others on envornmental legislation and planning. And lots of courses covered more than one of these areas, in varying proportions
The proper science stuff interests me the most, but the course I want to do covers all three. The plan is to be an envoronmental consultant, and hopefully get to travel the world advising on different projects. Whether that’ll happen or not who knows, but you gotta have a dream!

i’m helping run the BASSfayre his year on the level in brighton, an outdoor onedayer. ive spoken to the brighton peace and environment centre (they were already onboard doin the kids feild) with a veiw to making the fest a working example of sustainable pratices rather than just giving out info, which i thinks rings a bit hollow when you are drinking imported beer out of plastic cups and then throwing them in the bin etc.
if there is any advice, support or suggetsions, i’m all ears 🙂
April 6, 2005 at 2:29 pm #1064923I’d be happy to help in any way I can. Even if it’s just helping in the clear up!
One of the things I need to do to support my application for my course is prove that I am ‘environmentally orientated’, as it’s a bit of a change of direction from my previous subjects, and my degree only just makes the minimum entry requirement.
So being invlolved in something like that is just what I’m looking for. I’ll IM you my e-mail address. Would be cool if you could send me details of the event, as I’ve not heard of it before.
Do you have much going on in Brighton in the way of parties? We were supposed to go to Havok on NYE, but it fell through at the last minute, and we ended up in the local listening to Robbie Williams and fecking S-Club fecking 7! :annoyed:
