So the man’s a hypocrite then. The worse thing about the adverts is that Sky 1-3 have adopted them, Sort of like an annoying mascot. :you_crazy

Remember he’s not a musician – he’s a sexual being. Apparently insurance is dirt cheap if that’s your profession…

February 27, 2009 at 12:57 pm #1192244Have story from back in the days(80´s) when I could party the whole night and sleep for two three hours and then be banging fresh for work. Gunnar, my friend and I was in Oslo to plan the summer travels for the work I had back then. After work we went drinking like holes in the ground….but on our way home we had forgot where we had put his bike, so he had to sit on back of mine and it was down-hill all the way to his flat….I pedaled like a mad man, guess what, :crazy_diz…well back home sumtin was missing; Gunnar. So back on the bike and try to find him, but he was not to be found anywhere….after two hours I gave up, back to gunnars flat but he was not there….Luckily the weather was very nice so I sat down on stairs and skinned up a J and just as I finnshed that Gunnar came. (He has totally white hair) He was lookin…well not good and had lost his T-shirt…but happy for the J :weee:. Up in his flat he had this massive mirror in the hall way….He went pass it and stopped. After a short study of his state he had blood all over; Waov, I look like Iggy Pop!
Party ON!raaa
…and yeah the same summer(87) I saw Iggy twice, one special event with only invited guests and a festival gig outside oslo…That specialevent thingi ranks on my top five concerts of all time!

March 4, 2009 at 7:09 pm #1192275I find it amusing that Iggy tells us to “GET A LIFE” yet he is the one that stars in a stupid f*cking advert selling car insurance.
The reason i bring this up is that Sky1 for some bizarre reason has adopted Iggy as the face of their Sci-Fi programing, It’s really not on. I would like nothing more to kick Iggy in his wrinkled old face and then tell him to get a fecking life. :crazy_diz

March 4, 2009 at 10:57 pm #1192243I saw the advert when at my mates house – not only is it no use to me (I don’t have a car), I took one look at it and him and just assumed it was likE sAGA insurance with some special deal for the over 60’s anyway and its was all a ironic “marketing method” to the olds..

I’m sorry TG. Any respect i had for mr Iggy was lost forever when he first told me to get a life. He and the other sell outs must pay for their crimes against humanity.

A car insurer admitted today it refuses to cover musicians despite featuring Iggy Pop in its adverts.
The veteran rocker is the star of swiftcover’s “Get a life. Get swiftcovered” campaign. But although the 61-year-old American is best known for singing hits such as Lust for Life, it has emerged that the online insurance firm has been turning down people who work in the music and entertainment industry for car insurance, citing higher levels of risk and potential claims costs as its reasons.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said it has launched an investigation after receiving complaints from those deemed ineligible because of their jobs. Tim Soong, who plays bass guitar in Roguetune, told London’s Evening Standard he planned to report swiftcover to the ASA. “The customer services operator told me they don’t insure musicians,” he said. “When I mentioned Iggy Pop, she said his case was different because he is American.”
A spokesman for the ASA said: “We have received 12 complaints and we are formally investigating those complaints. They have challenged whether it is misleading to suggest Iggy Pop has insurance with swiftcover because its website states that those who work in entertainment cannot take out a car insurance policy with that insurer.”
The ASA will publish its adjudication in due course, the spokesman added.Tina Shortle, marketing director of swiftcover.com, said Iggy Pop had been chosen as the face of its advertising “because he loves life, not because he is a musician. He is an actor demonstrating the benefits of swiftcover.com.”
She added: “Insurance premiums are based on a number of different data, including the historic claims costs swiftcover.com has witnessed for specific occupations.
“This means that we do not provide cover to some professions that, according to that data, have a higher level of claims costs. The reason swiftcover.com doesn’t cover people in the ‘entertainment business’ is due to the risk of personal injury.”
Swiftcover’s list of uninsurable occupations also includes gambling, modelling, professional sport, bailiffs and bodyguards.
March 5, 2009 at 11:32 pm #1192250AnonymousThis is great – the insurance company will have spunked a shed load of cash for Iggy Pops image rights, and they won’t be able to screen the adverts :laugh_at::laugh_at:
