(J.K. everything subbed goes back into the site, although is very much needed and welcomed – it’s what gives us all these shiny new upgrades etc.)

May 29, 2012 at 5:34 pm #1253911cheers dude..
A while back I got prayed for by the Nuns at EWTN.
I worked for a company what supplied them with very expensive specialised broadcast equipment, and fast tracked them a new circuit board because our flagship product they had purchased flaked out in the humidity of a comms room in Alabama USA, having only been tested in Blighty. I always seemed to get allocated EWTN’s support calls, maybe because I had a good record of being able to sort really obscure problems with kit whether it was in UK or foreign lands,.
Around that time my Dad passed away due to a long term illness, and nuns being observant realised I hadn’t been in the office for a while and when I returned and explained what had happened (and foolishly also admitted to being a Catholic who had not been to Mass for 20 years) said they would all pray for me and my sins to be forgiven. There are a lot of nuns at EWTN (I think every female member of staff there is one) but I think I have done a equal number of sins since baptism.
Anyway, whether or not you are religious, what is impressive is EWTN’s quality of content and technical resources.
You might feel some religious ideas are outdated, but the technology they use is top range. Out of curiosity I had a look at their video and for what is some old dude preaching from a church in the USA (I think), they have way better audio and video quality than the BBC at Manchester. Also loads of useful advice on how to tune in by various transmitters, including a simple guide to retuning a satellite RX as they had to change satellite as France Télécom were shifting kit around (and I’m sure they prayed for this too, and don’t blame them as the French can randomly do stuff what reduces their own engineers to tears)..
They’ve even got a special channel for the UK, this wasn’t there last time I checked!
All of it is funded by donations. OK church goers are often well off people, but not all of them are it just shows what a community can be capable of.
I bet the sisters will be having a good laugh tonight when they check their links and find us bunch of sinners at the other end…

May 30, 2012 at 2:26 pm #1253912PS: if EWTN put on a show of Pope Benedict playing piano (which he is good at) but instead of the usual Northern European classical stuff (which I can hear on any of the national broadcasters of Europe) a jazz style like them black dudes you get in movies from the Southern USA (or better still playing a duet with such a chap and I’m sure you could easily find one at a Catholic church in Alabama) I’d even consider going to church again :laugh_at:
May 30, 2012 at 5:55 pm #1253921I’m completely lost now !
May 30, 2012 at 6:45 pm #1253913even if you aren’t religious, have a look at the EWTN website. This is also all funded by donations/subscriptions like we are.
a few years ago most of the content was American but they’ve now got British stuff. Their UK base is actually in Enfield and there are links with churches and businesses round this way. Whatever your views are Christian broadcasters, their operational methods are impressive…
and I even found a film of the Pope playing jazz piano…
