Congratulations! She looks like a clean wagon. Whats have you got for heating inside?
there isnt anything builtin at the mo as far as I can recall, its fully insultated though under the carpeted walls / roof etc
and had a result when I went into the loft to find some fabric to make me curtains – I saw there is loads of wide wooden pannels / wooden lengths from when my uncle owned the house, so that’ll do towards making the bed better than what they had. :bounce_flMarch 20, 2010 at 6:52 pm #1224131Wow!!
another epic journey!!
I’m all excited so up at 5am
left mine at 8am to get to Wales by 12.00 as planned to collect my van, problem free journey there..
get there and go to leave and Marcus’s car wont start,
we try and bump start it pushing him down a hill, no joy – he gets towed back to the farm by the lovely guy selling me the van,
I have to leave without him whilst he’s phoning his breakdown cover –
the plan was he’d follow me back – just in case – as I’ve NEVER driven anything so large, diesel or size engine –
but I go as dont really want to be drivin in the dark in an unusual vehicle
I decided to come straight back without stopping – so I’m home
He’s apparently got re-started and is on the M40 on his way – phew!!
I’ve left her outside my mates old house down the road as I panicked and dont think without chopping down a post I’ll get her in one piece on my drive…
I might walk down the road again to stroke her in a minute though :bounce_fl:bounce_fl

them merc vans are solid from what i hear…
yeah man there decent, got a good low/midrange torque curve, so they pull from loow down the rev range
March 20, 2010 at 10:26 pm #1224196but yeah, merc vans are sweet as a nut

Cool van! Without power steering you will have to learn how to turn when the wheels are turning, at first its heavy but you will get quick into it at the same time you spare the tires for the brutal forces of powersteering….
Merch. engines are generaly weak in power(do not like hills and moutains, strange when you think of it, cause germany have the alps and kassel hills….that is also one of the first things a Merch. owner have to learn; HOw to ‘climb’ hills) but takes it out in long life….just make sure it have oil(check instantly, like temprature on patients) and coolants and it will run almost forever…drive it like a truck….do not drive fast , 80-90 km/h maybe slower to save fuel….
You mentioned it got no heater. and that is sumtin you should find soon due to keep the inside enviroment healthy and free from dammage you get from damp and wet weather etc and it is not an luxury but merly a nessicity….
Since you allready have gas cooker, you could look for gas heater….have look into german autocamper forums, there you find a lot much cheaper than elsewhere…so combined a german festival and some sparepart shoppin….
When do I see you I Copenhagen? ….or mainland europe?

Yeh I must remember how to drive without power streering as I used to- guess it’ll just take a little time,
but I’m lucky with this one as it has turbo and it kicks in esp when going up hills so was fine in walesI also managed to average 60-65 MPH on the way back which was great, it has a rev counter put in it (which I’m told isnt usual) – so thats good for me whilst leaning to drive the deisel – as this something I also not done but also think I’ll pick it up soon enough,
am gutted as have been on night shifts since I got her and exhausted so sleep all day so not taken her out yet, got a little drive on fri planned though, only little as got to come home as throwing a party fri night :bounce_fl
we have looked on some of the german sites, my deutsch isnt what it used to be though 😉 and we did check out some of the rec yard whereabouts etc when looking at a 1974 one -but yeh, looking into the heater options my friend. However I dont think you’ll see me abroad for a while – what with the van and a few festie tickets sorted for this summer ……….I’m now (fucking!!!!) skint :laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at:

April 12, 2010 at 9:32 pm #1224136poor gertie had a leak,
she’s much better now though :love:mr marcus did most of the hard work, but I helped and made lots of cups of tea too :weee:
here a few pic’s
we’ve removed the full length cupboard / portaloo that was at the back – so much better views out the back for when driving, the lino on the floor and one of the top cupboards hasnt been put back but we may or may not as yet undercided
April 12, 2010 at 9:59 pm #1224116as far as I can see of the picts the van looks really good, no rust in the bottom of the doors? thats a place it normally starts. Use side mirrors, the middle one is for checking up on your passengers, you really do not need it when you drive a big veichle like yours, Its all about moving your eyes so you do not get any surprises from the back.
btw I am going to drive a sprinter 2morrow, 315cdi only 8 years old and with a sequencial gearbox….
hope to see more picts as the work progress…
April 20, 2010 at 6:55 pm #1224137removed the cupboard doors, and sanded them down and started to decoupague them
