I have always loved music with an edge, but it seems that (unlike a lot of my friends) my musical taste just seems to be getting harder, faster and darker as I get older. Some (not all, but some) of my friends think I am a bit mental because I just won’t settle down as I rack up the years and start listening to something more appropriate for a man of my age (Radio 1 house music I guess? Or maybe a bit of RnB or something by Coldplay (I mean Arctic Monkeys – sorry, showing my age again))
Is it only me? Please tell me there are other 30-something ravers that love it faster, harder and darker – I feel SO alone 😥

June 10, 2007 at 6:03 pm #1112956It’s the new developments and crazy turns that keep the music going. You need good djs as well-scratchin and mixing-nothing else like it.
It slows down and speeds up and back again over time- The whole brealbeat sound of the last few years took it back to basics. You should try the Overkill stage at the glade. to me it sounded like it was trying to murder me, but there were hundreds of people going for it.

me 2June 11, 2007 at 6:50 pm #1112950It’s nice to know I’m not alone, but as I suspected – we are a dying breed.
Maybe I should just grow up?
Nah, fuck it… :bounce_fl

Growing up ain’t all bad . . . things change yes but . . .
on the flip side . . . we know what we want, we know how to get it, we can do whatever we like and we waste less time with people/places/things we don’t need :weee:

June 13, 2007 at 9:53 pm #1112957I know my taste is pretty dark and hard, but I never could find stuff that was really to my taste… Then I was taken to a squat rave! :weee:
I’m growing old but i’ll never be growing up. To me “growing up” has overtones of conformity to “society”, and it seems TEK Tonic and others here have been fortunate enough not to suffer from that affliction! I’m maturing: becoming a better, wiser and more refined human being. “They” are well aware that sort of human causes peace, democracy and happy coherent societies.
Raves and sensible informed drug use are helping me mature and understand myself better, though of course they are only part of the process. Isn’t it funny how the only legal drugs are the ones that are most taxable and do nothing for us? (as Bill Hicks pointed out)
