February 14, 2008 at 7:40 pm #1155260A ‘Hallmark’ holiday is one thought up by the stationery company Hallmark in order to sell more cards and associated goods. So Valentine’s day, mother’s day, father’s day etc etc where we are supposed to show our love for our cherished ones by spending money on pointless cards and such items rather than actually making the effort and showing them how much we care on a daily basis :you_crazy
I am very cynical about these so called special days after working in the retail trade – they are just a marketing ploy in my opinion. As is the UK celebrating halloween US style [all those costumes and extra sweets] and midwinter in a huge consumerist frenzy where we are encouraged to spend oodles of money on things the recipient may not even want.
