They have done nothing to help me look for work or advice on how to look for work relating to what i’d like to do.

I won’t get a qualification from what they want me to do.That’s proper shit. Feel sorry for you mate.
I had a similar deal when I was going to college in 1998. They told me that I would have to drop the course and take up ANY job if they found me a suitable one as opposed to staying on the course and getting qualified and moving on with my life.
At least I wasn’t forced to take “work experience” (loosley translated in to “slave labour”) for £1 an hour though. That’s disgusting.
Hope it works out.

June 21, 2007 at 6:20 pm #1113915I always get the impression that the New Deal is being used by those in power to “punish” people for living their lives to their own timescales rather than the systems – at each point the people running it are trying to make you feel “you should have sorted your life out at high school/6th form time when you were supposed to, not tried to snatch back a bit of time to “discover yourself”

The advisor this week almost shouted at me cos i was pointing out the fact this ‘work experience’ will not get me a job and if i finished the 13 week thing(hope i dont get that far) al just be back in jobseekers again..its a waste of time.:hopeless:

June 21, 2007 at 6:53 pm #1113930Their system obviously dosen’t have the flexiblity to deal with your circumstances. I know how frustrating this can be from times past.
I don’t thing I would be going on the work experience thing though. I would stick at your course and get a job to pay the bills. (I’m sort of assuming that there are jobs, cos surely if there are jobs in Boro there are jobs everywhere 🙂 If your job prospects do improve it should be fairly short term.
I think a lot of people fund their training or further/higher education by basically working through it. Thats what I had to do, and I remember that there was a woman on my course who also worked, and she had four kids, one of whom was autistic. Big respect.
Don’t let the shortcommings of the system get you down and stop you doing what you plan. D.
