We’ve just upgraded to a a new 5K rig, and and up until now, we’ve been renting 2 generators. One for sound and one for Lighting. Most of our lighting is LED so doesn’t draw much power (except for the strobe and smoke machines).
But we now want to buy a generator as-well, but cant work out weather we can run it all off one (maybe 10Kva) genie?
Ive heard lots of story’s about interference and humming, but I cant find any thing for definite.
we’ve always had a really good quality sound, and want to compromise this in any way.
      Any advise?
      Thanks a lot.

You’d probably have to isolate both circuits to stop any groundloops forming from having other electrical equiptment runing off the same circuit as music equipment. Don’t ask me how tho.

Would batteries not be a viable option for the lighting, seens as it doesn’t draw much power?

most people i’ve spoken to recommend splitting sound onto a decent reliable, CONSISTENT diesel genny.
whereas your lighting isnt gonna be so opposed to ‘dirtier’ power

speakerplans forum will probably give you good help here
