With normal mainstream (I use this term losely) artists its easy. Artist folders in a music directory with good tags.
how do you organise mix’s where often there’s more than one type of music? I was trying to organise it by genre but there are so many anyway. But there will be too many to just put all lose in one folder.
ugh headake.
December 7, 2010 at 11:09 pm #1232459Anonymousthere’s just a big folder called mixes on my computer and ipod, unless there’s a few by the same artist then it just gets it’s own thingy. cba to fuck around with organising everything right.

CD? never herd of it
but how do you organise your mix’s? the DJ? the genre? how!!!
December 7, 2010 at 11:37 pm #1232482ooohhh, well. by genre, its hard. Generally because lets say….Umek, he DJs tech house…But, he also does old skool techno, if one of his mix’s is a cross over, i just literally put: tech house/old skool tek as the genre. its annoying but i find it works.
if you use windows media player, like i do, there should be an option to incluse sub-genre as well, so, in theory, you can have an acid tek folder, but as well it has HARD acid tek in as well
December 7, 2010 at 11:43 pm #1232472i just split into 3 folders psytrance techno and other (which consists of everything from hard trance to gabba atm)
December 7, 2010 at 11:45 pm #1232483I’ve literally got about 200-300 music folders, totalling near to 6000 tracks. so that’s a wee bit easy for me! lol
December 8, 2010 at 8:21 am #1232473genre/subgenre/artist/album/tracknumber-trackname
e.g.
breaks/breakcore/venetian snares/infolepsy/01 – americanized.mp3
psychedelic/psychill/shpongle/tales of the inexpressible/01 – dorset perception.mp3I’ll split an album in half if i have to, to stick to the genre scheme. This allows me to stick on ‘all my breakbeat’ or ‘all my breakcore’ without needing to mess around with multiple genere tags which are ultimately less flexible
Also I rate every track so I can put on the very best of, or everything above 3 stars, or whatever depending on the circumstances.
This format is completely incompatible with iTunes that does not let you browse by folder, piece of shit software that it is. Mediamonkey for the win!!!
December 8, 2010 at 11:12 am #1232475I don’t it is utter chaos

I use wimamp, always have, love it. But I dont know enough to brake stuff down by ear so have to rely on the mix names etc. Think I will have to do my best to put things in correct folders.
I have 78GB of lovely organised stuff with artists and what not all properly tagged and sorted. But then theres a folder of god knows how many GB of downloaded mix’s.

same, this is exactly how my hoard is organised. i find rating it a very helpful but also, a bit annoying, like, if i hear a song for the first time, and i don’t really like it i’ll rate low, but if i hear it again like 4 months down the line i might like it, but then i’ll have to find it. Chances are i don’t remember the name of the track
December 8, 2010 at 1:05 pm #1232490Just put them in alphabetical order, problem solved!:bounce_fl

heh yeah ratings change all the time, its more a way of filtering out all the shit. should probably just delete it really 😉
