i cant beleive they think you can some up a national identity in a test, the answers make me sick as well.
indoctrination tastic!
i got a 6.
June 16, 2005 at 2:48 pm #1066054nice one…i got 11…but then again i did guess most of them.
June 16, 2005 at 3:09 pm #1066057I got 12 – I’m gonna go out & buy a Union Jack T-shirt….
June 16, 2005 at 3:28 pm #1066060Yeh I saw this earlier today, I managed a score of 9. With probably half that were guesses. Only a few of those questions were really relevant for living in the Uk though.
June 16, 2005 at 3:42 pm #1066055Does seem to be a complete waste of time….except the drink thing. I’d hope if someone spilt my drink they’d give me their shirt to wipe it up with :egg: (????)
June 16, 2005 at 3:45 pm #1066058Anonymousi thought the first one was best:
Question 1 Life in the UK says to be British means you should… A: “Respect laws, the elected political structures, traditional values of mutual tolerance and respect for rights and mutual concern.” B: “Share in the history and culture of an island nation with a character moulded by many different peoples over more than two thousand years.” C: “be part of a modern European democracy, one with a tradition of sharing our ways with the world – and allowing the world to bring its ways to us.” i chose B, but apparently the official answer is A….
big suprise… :oh_god:

June 16, 2005 at 3:55 pm #1066053what a crock of shit
scary shit, nonetheless
like someone needs to know that the origins of father Christmas are German / Swedish to be a valuable member of society
I can’t believe the government are wasting time and money on this shit
June 16, 2005 at 5:50 pm #1066059i got a 10 :crazy_fre
June 16, 2005 at 7:28 pm #1066051I got 9 – and only because I guessed some and also can pick out “whitehall/public sector speak” due to my day job and know “what the right answers are”
I’d also challenge the mains voltage answer as the declared mains voltage of all EU areas is 230V …
I do support the idea of citizenship training to an extent; there are still many good things about Britain such as our diversity of cultures and a higher level of gender and social equality than many other nations (you may not think so but there are far worse countries to be than Britain)…
these positive aspects should be taught to citizens (particularly gender equality and how to access health services particularly primary care, family planning and children’s health services) – but not just immigrants, all citizens of the UK whether originally born here or not.
but this could equally be done by “leading by example” via the BBC etc…
and as others said many questions are totally irrelevant and their tone far too flippant [although that could be the BBC report trying to inject humour].some of these questions just seemed to be dreamed up to stress the immigrants a bit more, and to have a dig at Europe in the process…..
I think using this “multiple choice pub quiz” to decide a life-changing event such as whether someone can enter a country or not is completely inappropriate…
June 16, 2005 at 8:49 pm #1066062i got 12 :crazy_fre
June 17, 2005 at 3:42 pm #1066052I got 13, but then i have got a shaved head and tats and i wear clumpy dm’s!! – joke people! i’m just a sponge for usless info over the years. (but i do have a bald head)
