May 30, 2008 at 9:20 am #1173027hey Jarvis –
if you want to you can link your myspace to your account here (using the ‘user cp’ in the green bar so it’ll be an icon) raaa
and people will be able to check out your tunes – even if they’ve not seen this post
May 30, 2008 at 9:35 am #1173031hey thanks for that !! but i looked in the cp i cant find it ๐ there was a thing saying homepage and i typed it in there already but i dont think that links to it.. :S
May 30, 2008 at 9:42 am #1173028if you click on the user cp bit – then on the next page on the left hand side click on the ‘edit profile’ link
on that page near the bottom is where you can put facebook / myspae etc numbers in to it
(I’m not sure but I think its the numbers linked to your individual myspace account – but if I’m wrong I’m sure someone else will replly )
May 30, 2008 at 9:48 am #1173032oo i found it ๐ ta for that, unfortunately cant rememba my number off by heart lol and myspack is blocked at work x(
May 30, 2008 at 11:45 am #1173019welcome to partyvibe Jarvis… ๐
fair play to you for joining and to your dad for at least tolerating your lifestyle (makes me feel old now as I bet your dad is about the same age as me lol)
round there things may not be so easy for free parties but there are still people wanting to do legal underground events rather than cave in to doing crap commercial nights…
May 30, 2008 at 11:52 am #1173033Hey thanks man ๐ how come its harder round here then? i been reading through the forums and it seems like the councils roudn here are a bit anal about them :S and apparently the land is flat so the sound travels…i remember the rave in chalkney woods a couple of years ago, u could hear it from chapel apparently like a 10 minute drive away lol. although i live in a valley :S dunno how that works.
i read about these TENS licenses they sound like a good way of getting to throw a party, but they seem to me like too much of a pain in the arse…
maybe i will have to stick to my current free parties in function rooms ๐

also when people my age were your age a lot of us got too much into heroin and crack because of the easy availability of all drugs which got linked to the iillegal rave scene
Quote:i read about these TENS licenses they sound like a good way of getting to throw a party, but they seem to me like too much of a pain in the arse…depends on the councils and it can be a bit of paperwork, but what they mostly want is a site map and a health and safety document – its a standard checklist for the whole country and you work in CAD/design anyway so it may not be so difficult..
I’ve heard a fair few events have been held under TENS legally in many parts of Essex. as well as Norfolk. They tend not to be widely advertised other than within circles of friends (fair enough I suppose as an individual is accountable for everything that happens there so you don’t want complete bellends turning up) but they are going ahead and this is in one of the most on top areas of England..
May 30, 2008 at 1:17 pm #1173034Yeah that is fair enough i wouldn’t want too many people if i ever did one, what’s putting me off the idea is that if i took the time n money and got a TENS and started the music and the cops turned up and told us to get lost then it would all be a waste ! maybe i need to look into this thing a bit more

it also works both ways – if the authorities gave you a TENS and then put a closure order on your event without good reason (and “good reason” would have to be something like a shooting or stabbing or a brawl or the venue actually on fire) you could take them and the Council to Court (the civil or County Court) for all the money you have lost.
if you apply for a TENS and the council refuse it you can appeal, and as its all legal and above board if they keep refusing you can go to the local press and state your case..
May 30, 2008 at 1:47 pm #1173035k i just read all about it on braintree district council website, ยฃ21 not too bad i guess, do i have to keep paying it if i appeal? that would be a bit gay, oh well hopefully they won’t refuse..
So about a closure order…they can tell me to stop due to public nuisance right? so if someone complains about the noise the cops will tell shut me down? or tell me turn the music down? and i’m guessing they would want to see my TENS when they got there :crazy_diz
Also 1 more thing, if i put on the application that i will have 499 people will that affect their decision you reckon? because i dont want to estimate how many people will turn up and then exceed the limit! u know what i mean?

so it makes more financial sense for the Council to grant it
you may be better off contacting someone first and having an informal chat about the event

I expect both the Environmental Health officer and cops would have to attend and explain to you there has been noise complaints and you get an opportunity to turn down the music.
On the councils website is a big document called the Licensing policy.
Download it, and read it all. It is long and boring, but if you can comply with these rules the council legally cannot refuse you a license.
Quote:Also 1 more thing, if i put on the application that i will have 499 people will that affect their decision you reckon? because i dont want to estimate how many people will turn up and then exceed the limit! u know what i mean?its up to 500 people including crews etc. I’d apply for the full 500. Realistically most free parties have less than this anyway.
The main issues will be getting permission and convincing the authorities. Bear in mind though as a legal promoter you can use the media and local community to your advantage, the way to spin it is its better done this way than an illegal rave where it costs loads to close it down, people get hurt and nothing gets cleared up.
it is a lot more work than an illegal party. If your dad has done legal events before I’d speak to him as well..
May 30, 2008 at 3:06 pm #1173036thanks for all ya help man i feel welcome already ๐
May 30, 2008 at 3:50 pm #1173037o i got one more question,
I’m guessing you need landlords consent for use of his land to get a TENS. This is a problem cos i don’t know any of the landlords around here and i am guessing that if i were to ask them if i could throw a party on their land they would not be to happy :S !
So if i were to throw a party randomly in some woods or something and there were complaints about noise, the cops would go down there and tell me to turn down right ?? im guessing nope ๐ they wuold probly confiscate n all that jazz am i right?

I wouldn’t just give up though..
there must be people your extended family know who have access to land.
A lot of farming families are at the stage where the current farmers are elderly and can no longer look after their land, and want to pass it on to their younger sons and daughters.
These new farmers aren’t that old, and many of them may even be more willing to host an event provided it could be done in a responsible manner (keeping the place clean etc after the event).
