Ok, I’ve decided I’d like to expand my Acid techno section so that I’ve got enough for a decent set, plus I like mixing it into other things, (ska, old skool, etc).
However, being me I am looking to get hold of mostly classic tunes, and ones with vocals and funky basslines. I am pretty good at hunting down tunes on the net, but don’t really have much experience with buying techno online.
I was wondering whether I could get some advice on record stores online that stock, or if anyone knows of copies of:
Stay Up Forever 75- Acid Ska EP
Stay Up Forever 83- Acid Ska strikes again
HighWire 17- Tear Dem
Highwire 11- Smoking Marajuana
Stay Up Forever Classics 2+3 – Acid War/ Funky Cold Cortina(Especially looking for the Acid Ska EP + The Funky Cold Cortina repress.)
BTW- I’ve already managed to get hold of:
Funky Town (Original Mix)
The Rabbit’s Name was………
London Acid City
One Night In HackneyWhich I feel is pretty good going for £10 each!
I know these are all rinsed classics, and the techno heads will be shaking their heads in despair, but I like classic tunes, and I’m not a techno dj, I just like to chuck random tunes into my sets every now and again.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Ahh bollocks to that. They are classics because they are great tunes. There are people that diss the london acid techno sound and state it’s not real techno.
It can get a bit repetitive and most of the good tunes are made by the same group of friends but it gets a party going like no other and it provides me with some fond memories.
Anyway. If you are looking for classic acid techno then the only real places are ebay, discogs and gemm.
Hope that helps.
June 12, 2008 at 9:42 pm #1174200You know it.
Kinda helps- but I knew all of those sites already! I was hoping the Funky Cold Cortina would be in a techno shop somewhere as it was repressed recently.
Did get Acid ska strikes again off Gemm though…..
June 12, 2008 at 9:46 pm #1174198Some techno shops:
juno.co.uk <obviously
kinetec.com
bangingtunes.comJune 12, 2008 at 10:02 pm #1174201Discogs is far too overpriced!
June 12, 2008 at 10:07 pm #1174210have u tried http://www.truelove.co.uk/ for the highwire ones? the others may be on ther too worth a look this site is good for techno records
June 12, 2008 at 10:36 pm #1174203But I did find Acid Ska strikes/ Smoking marajuana on GEMM. All good.
Now all I REALLY want is the Acid ska and Funky Old cortina ones.
June 12, 2008 at 10:41 pm #1174204Truelove is the parent label, so its good for a discography, but not for buying the tunes (all out of stock.)
June 12, 2008 at 11:02 pm #1174195Anonymousgot most of these….
June 13, 2008 at 8:32 am #1174205Doesn’t really help though……… unless you want to sell me Acid Ska?
June 13, 2008 at 1:00 pm #1174199I wouldn’t suggest using Truelove’s record store EVER!
Absolute shit and bad customer service. It’s not run by truelove.
Discogs can be overpriced but you just have to keep checking. Some people don’t charge ludicrous prices.
June 13, 2008 at 4:08 pm #1174206TBH it’s Just Acid Ska now that I really want (the one that I started looking for in the first place!). Just found a Funky Old Cortina original in NZ for £15.
Not too bad methinks……….
June 13, 2008 at 4:13 pm #1174196I take it there is no chance Mr Vega would be encouraged to part with any of his tunes 😉
June 13, 2008 at 5:15 pm #1174207Haven’t seen Gav in years! Besides- I’ve just looked at my bank balance and decided I have to stop buying records.
In fact, it’s so bad I may actually have to just whack all these tunes on mp3 and then stick them straight on ebay!!
June 13, 2008 at 6:05 pm #1174209Try http://chemical-records.co.uk/
They’re pretty good and certainly the cheapest for postage
(sorry not parting with my copy of Acid Ska either)
June 14, 2008 at 2:07 pm #1174208Update- just gor Funky town/One Night/Panic Underground in the mail. It goes fucking well with old skool. I’m going to work on an old skool/ acid tech set and see what you guys think…………
