why do people look at you weird when you say it? i mean strangers you say hello so to try and be friendly and they look at you … stare is better description of the looks i get … anyone else find this?

if no one else is finding this i must just look dodgy :bitter:

      love, d.a 🙂

Yeah, people give me strange looks 😥 but eventually they crack and will start talking.

I say morning to people, it’s being friendly!

Maybe it’s the way you say it.
Do you say it with a sinister undertone? lol
                            Maybe they’re just miserable fuckers.

It really depends where you are I find,

where I live I talk to most of my immediate neighbours,

but when I say mornin to randoms I get some funny looks

(esp old people who I thought it’d be nice for but maybe they think I just wanna mug em)

When I lived in a little village in Glostershire it was considered rude if you didnt stop and talk and sometimes it was a pain in the arse if I was rushing off to work ……..or the pub 😉

in Ipswich this is less common (unless its on your street/estate to immediate neighbours). Like most town/city areas there’s a more dispersed and diverse population and many “London incomers” (actually I am probably thought of as one of them) so increasingly the London attitude applies, and since the events of December 2006 and a couple more dodgy incidents (stranger rapes/sexual assaults) young men speaking to “strange women” has become less accepted (or may make the girls/women paranoid) for obvious reasons.

Essex is like London, you keep yourself to yourself (although I haven’t spent much time there other than to get trains out of the place).

However as you get further towards the “proper” bumpkin areas (Mid Suffolk etc) its a lot more common to say hello to strangers and also to greet the people in shops etc…

Also its normal if cycling to wave to other cyclists unless they are obviously training for races etc (i.e wearing dayglo lycra and riding a £1000 carbon fibre frame road bike) in which case they are excused.

This is only because the roadies are so determined on keeping up their pace they are liable to crash if they start waving to randoms (and may be going too fast to see you anyway).
