Hey guys
Dont know how to start this but in any case i just joined the Vibe forums so just want to say hello to everyone ๐
Im really new to the rave scene, and seriously have never been to a “proper” rave, so for the most part im here to shut up and learn!Mmh, something about me. i found this site ages ago because i wanted to know a little more about the rave culture. Ive listened to techno music for quite a few years but never made the destinction between nightclubs and raves until recently. All but 2 of the people i know prefer nightclubs and think that raves are a dangerous place to be (ahem) so its a little hard to find someone to talk to on the subject.
Anyways i hope to get to know new people ๐ and definatelly here to learn more than anything.
Also my apologies if i sound stupid for most of the time, prettymuch a “newbie” ๐Love
MariaFebruary 9, 2005 at 12:02 am #1063984alrighty….welcome to the boards.
where bouts (ish) you from???? an to be fair ive been “ravin” for 4 or 5 years now an i still havent been to a proper old skool rave still love it though.February 9, 2005 at 12:21 am #1063982welcome to the forum!
The site is as much about music, creativity and alternative entertainment to the mass media and branded ‘lifestyles’ as about raves IMO
no need to shut up and learn… you’ll learn much quicker if you just join in ๐

Mariai wont pretend to you that inner city raves arent dangerous places if you dont have you wits about you, but with them its all about safety in numbers and a bit of street smarts.
on the other hand, if you are in the countryside (or fancy a mish) outdoor party season is nearly upon us, and they are safe as fuck. i’ve been helping to put on parties for four years and we have never had a single fight or mugging (to my knowledge) at one of our raves.
also, dont worry about bein a newb, at the end of the day you will have a fresh perspective that is essential to keeping these events lively, entertaining and relevent. no one wants to see the scene stagnate, so all ideas, nomatter how “stupid” they may seem are always welcome. we cant think of everything, so the more feedback and comments and ideas we get are all massively welcome. who knows, you could inspire us all into changing the nature and style of our parties! that aint gonna happen if you are too concerned with seeming cool.
WELCOME!
February 10, 2005 at 2:57 am #1063986Thanks for the welcomes ๐ Means a lot that there are people who you can talk to!
I live in Melbourne (australia) in the eastern suburbs, about 20 minutes from the central city district, so its pretty good access.
Which gives me a thought, it’d be great to get to know anyone who lives around the same area.City raves is actually the usual thing that we have down here and in most case its more of a nightclub/rave put together. I do agree that these can be dangerous, there have been stabbings and fights in some of the clubs (thus i suppose the rep they get) What USE said about “seeming cool” also goes into it i think, if you have that sort of attitude and meet someone else with one, it could result in a messy situation. What so inspired me about raving is the fact that the people there are there to dance and have a blast rather than be on show and judge everyone who appears in their sight, unlike clubs. Still though, you see so many people who go in there and act like everyone is watching them.
It would be great to go to an outdoor rave, we have some in the bush and street raves as well, problem is getting the time with school and work  putting those sort of events on sounds like fun too ๐
Ah and i would love to have an imput into this community, ill try to say things which i mean ๐February 10, 2005 at 11:31 am #1063980Mashvie wrote:Thanks for the welcomes ๐ Means a lot that there are people who you can talk to!thanks for joining us! For months we have been worrying that too many people (especially those who are not in the UK) just “shut up and learn” rather than say something!, particularly if they are in a community where not many of their friends go raving
if the AU scene is anything like the UK scene (and I would guess its influenced a lot by what goes on in Britain) the outdoor ones definitely usually are the safest. In any city anywhere in the world there is a culture where some youth find violence seductive and will try and bring it to even the best run city events…. OTOH few make the effort to travel miles into the countryside to cause any bother…

OTOH few make the effort to travel miles into the countryside to cause any bother…Yup, the music is the thing that is most influenced by British goings on. I think the majority of trance that you see on sale, for example, comes from the well known club “Ministry of Sound”, everything from the anthems published to hard NRG. Its not too bad, but usually if you want to get certain pieces of music yo have to buy the cd’s produced by the DJ’s themselves.
And its really good to hear that there are at least some events that are mostly stupidit-free, even if it is down in the country side, its really worth going to ๐February 13, 2005 at 3:43 pm #1063983Mashvie wrote:I live in Melbourne (australia) in the eastern suburbs, about 20 minutes from the central city district, so its pretty good access.

a couple yaers ago a friend cam back from Oz and gave me a couple of underground ‘zines with party reports … one was in the bush on a site that the govt were planning on building a nuclear reactor on…
a huge convoy of ravers crossed the country in lorries run on vegetable oil (the article also explained how to build one of these ๐ ) and took some shit on the way from law but stood unified and made it to their destination and partied…
and at a squatted venue in Melbourne party-goers refused to leave, chanting “bad cop, no doughnut” until the music was able to come back on ๐
it sounded like a very fresh and active scene ๐
February 14, 2005 at 3:59 am #1063988bwaha! Australians are crazy ๐
The rave on the nuclear power plant site sounds familiar, ill have to look it up and see if they ever ended up putting a power plant on that area.
We have a few bush raves a year that i know of, they are usually closer to the end of the year (is novemeber) since its summer for us at that time.
Ah and we are very lucky down here, the cops are not allowed to use brutal force to break up gatherings unless they absolutely have to. Even then they have strict limits on what they can do. One slip up by authorities here and they are on trial as quick as any criminal… very lucky -
