The drug classification system is all over the place, quite frankly. There is no way ecstasy should be class A, for a start. It is outdated and has no scientific or social basis at all.

May 1, 2008 at 10:44 pm #1161429yup GHB.. with the potential to kill you. its a fine line between it getting you high and killing you. alot more riskier that shrooms or even MDMA. yet its alongside weed and tranquilizers..
i heard the classification system was in order of the potential of abuse and how harmful it is. like say heroin should definatly be class A coz of the addiction thing and how bad it is for your body..

May 1, 2008 at 10:56 pm #1161408sometimes I think they aren’t as stupid as you think though and its a lot more cynical and calculating
making ket class A or B would mean many dealers would think “better be hanged for a sheep than a lamb” and start importing dealing decent pills and speed again
and if GHB kills people once they are dead they are no further burden to the NHS…
now at this point this is slight “tinfoil helmet” territory but I also think that the right wing would be perfectly happy for certain junkies or other non-productive people to be able to easily end their lifes either accidentally or deliberately so they leave at least one “killer” drug easily available..

Nah mate. It’s not based on any particular order. It’s mostly “put everything in class A” when it becomes a problem, and very rarely move it down if the government frankly has no other choice.
For example:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/5230006.stmThe designation of drugs in classes A, B and C should be replaced with one more closely reflecting the harm they cause, a committee of MPs has said. The Science Select Committee said the present system was based on historical assumptions, not scientific assessment.
“Perhaps most surprising is the presence of two Class A drugs – ecstasy and LSD – in the bottom six.”
I’m not saying that everyone will agree with that graph (for one, it does not separate coke and crack) but it proves the classification system is a load of outdated shit.

if MDMA went class B we would be flooded with it, might be fun for ravers in the short term until the proper old skool comedowns set in (was why a lot of people today are bang into benzos, ket or even smack)

there may be good reasons for it, even “normal” coke snorters occasionally wash up a rock or two. also its not really any different from Senior Service cigarettes (high tar cigs what may even be banned today) compared to Mayfair lights, both are classed as tobacco..
oh, and gordon brown always looks stoned because he only has one eye. the other is glass.
