February 22, 2008 at 1:06 am #1155979Yeah, provided you have a suitable output on your laptop (you may need to buy an external soundcard which aren’t too pricy for the cheaper models) then you can run it through a line input on the mixer.

For a bit more money I’d go for this top little mixer:
http://www.decks.co.uk/products/mixers/ecler/nuo2
..and if money isn’t an object then go for the Ecler Nuo5 (which I have) or the Rane Empath:
Quality, solid, awesome mixers. I don’t rate the Allen & Heath mixers too much… some of the Pioneers are ok but don’t stand up to the Empath or Nuo IMO.
yeah i hate vestax mixers as a rule … have used a few diferante ones and own one my self .. the’re flimsy as fook and the standard faders are even worce ..my crossfader broke twice in the first month of me having it (first time in the first week) ..then in the nest few months i had to replace the up faders numerouse amounts of times ..the ones i have used that wen’t mine also had the same problems … so it’s not just me mashing mine up too much :laugh_at: that neu5 mixer looks the nads … my m8 was gonna get it till his loan was declined … the crossfader is suposed to be indistructable and they claim you can poor coke over it and it will still work (but suggest it still might be a bad idea to try this :laugh_at:) … shame it costs like £800 or i would get one

Dust and dirt does not effect it because it works with the use of magnets. Two magnetic strips run either side of the fader and when you move it the fader breaks the magnetic force (slightly) and this is used to tell where the fader is. Hence no contact points that will get crackly after heavy use or from dirt/dust.

February 22, 2008 at 1:28 am #1155981Haha, nah, 4 years on and it’s still 100% perfic. The faceplate is starting to look a bit battered though. Handy thing is that the fader area of the plate is detachable from the rest of the mixer. So you can take it off and spray it up, or buy a new one.

February 25, 2008 at 9:54 pm #1155982when i started djing, i bought a pair of Sound lab belt drives, which were shit hot for starter dex. After that i bought a pair of sound lab direct drives which were aweful compared to the belts i had first had. found the platter was lighter and you couldnt put much force on the deck when slowing / speeding up a record.
I would suggest for you to get an expensive pair of belts instead of a cheap pair of directs. once you got to grips with the belters then go for the technics.
Even tho u can get a second hand pair of technics quite cheap. approx 400quid.
hav a look on http://www.dontstayin.com there is always people selling turntables and mixers.
for a mixer i would go for the Gemini 626 mixer, brilliant for a starter mix. then once getting your technics go for the Pioneer 600 / 800.
