February 22, 2008 at 12:40 am #1155992well what ever you get make sure they are direct drive … i would probably go for second hand if you are low on cash as cheep new decks might be shit … but make sure you have seen them in full working order befour you buy them and test every piece of it like crossfaders, pitch faders, tone arms ect. so as not to find out later that some thing is fucked that you didn’t check when you get them home as you won’t nessaseraly get a garantee with second hand stuff ..unless you buy from a shop ..but that might add to the price …

boothy if you can afford to get “pro” decks now it would save you money in the long run as you wouldn’t have to upgrade … unless matt will buy you some decks to learn on next valantines day :crazy_dru

February 22, 2008 at 1:00 am #1155978As for mixers:
I’m not usually a big fan of vestax but this is nice and minimal and is actually a good solid mixer for an awesome price. A mate bought this about 7 years ago and it was about £400.

For a bit more money I’d go for this top little mixer:
http://www.decks.co.uk/products/mixers/ecler/nuo2
..and if money isn’t an object then go for the Ecler Nuo5 (which I have) or the Rane Empath:
Quality, solid, awesome mixers. I don’t rate the Allen & Heath mixers too much… some of the Pioneers are ok but don’t stand up to the Empath or Nuo IMO.
