They’re going to pull down my bus station:cry: Biggest bus station in Europe too, excellent place for practicing parkour; popular suicide spot too. Maybe that’s why they’re making us a smaller one, so people stop jumping off it.

That’s so unfair hey, the suiciders will just find somewhere else to go do the business, but then is this a tourist spot? cos spose that’ll give it a ‘bad name’.

Hahaha, tourist spot, Preston? The only tourist spot in Preston is the cage where they place bets on under 12 cage fighters round the back of The Old Bull, oh and maybe our football stadium too. The bus station is used predominantly for housing street living smack heads and the occasional bus.

Interestingly enough, if you take away an easy method for people to commit suicide, you reduce the number of suicides. Like when they phased out coal-gas ovens the suicide rate in the UK dropped by a third and didn’t go back up.

Maybe it was a coincidence… Like the same time coal-gas phased out and suicide rates dropped was maybe around the same time a major turn occurred for whichever country you’re referring to?

Harvard School of Public Health » Means Matter » Means Reduction Saves Lives
The trends follow too closely to be coincidences.

April 24, 2013 at 10:28 pm #1272195Apparently, most successful suicides are carried out fairly spontaneously and without weeks of planning. Although severely depressed people might be pre-occupied with thoughts of death and suicide and constantly dream up imaginative ways to die, there is a ‘danger zone’ of around 30 minutes where someone is actually in a state where they could kill themselves. If there is no nearby means of doing it at the time, they will probably not complete suicide. This is the reason why paracetamol are sold in small packs; whilst there is no reason someone couldn’t visit several chemists and buy a few packets, by the time they’ve done this they may well have changed their mind. This probably explains the whole thing with the ovens.

Has this just become the suicide thread? lol. Really if paracetamol is your choice of way to go then maybe you’re better off out the gene pool. Pretty dumb method, really hard to actually take a high enough dose to kill you and far from a quick or painless way to go. I say Hara Kiri then run at someone quickly and become the human forklift, briefly before you both die

April 25, 2013 at 7:36 am #1272227April 25, 2013 at 7:46 am #1272180life in the 1970s Britain was even less pleasant today and there were plenty of reasons why folk would top themselves, and the more methods easily made available the more would do it.

also barbiturates were mostly contraindicated and replaced with benzodiazepines (the only thing they are used for now in Europe is putting down pet animals (and people, in NL, though euthanasia isn’t as rife as folk think there as the old peoples homes are very well run)
barbs were a common sleeping tablet (and also diverted for same uses as benzos back in the day by the alternative crowd), problem was if you too took many you just went to sleep and did not wake up again.
April 25, 2013 at 7:56 am #1272223I was onna come back and say maybe the weed got better or something, but you kinda made my point, there could have been a few reasons suicide rates dropped that we don’t know fully.
