mungoNovember 30, 2010 at 1:46 pm #1232034Stretching the diapharam is the way to fix it.
So generally holding your breath works well if done properly
1) Inhale as much as you can in the normal method
2) Take a mouthfull of air and force it into your lungs.. do this a few times until your lungs feel like they are ready to burst
3) Stretch. Roll your shoulders. Point your arms up and bend back and forwards. Stick your chest out etc
Works for me 90% of the time

Heard about this when i was 18 – i’m nearly 48 now (!!) and it’s never failed me, except when i tried to do it in a hurry, so take some slow deep breaths for a minute or two 🙂
Btw – The person i heard that from, said: Half a glass of water, and sip slowly from the opposite side of the glass, then stand back up very slowly, while taking some slow deep breaths. in and out and -Voila!
DISCLAIMER: No medical proof to back this up! BUT, I’ve never heard of it failing, it only takes a couple of minutes – oh yeah and its FREE!! :love:November 30, 2010 at 10:16 pm #1232018Anonymousyeah, i agree with the diaphragm thing.. if i hold my breath and push on it it usually stops them.
does anyone think that hiccups really hurt? like, bad? 😐December 1, 2010 at 12:15 am #1232031@Iacchus 408737 wrote:

it must look pretty funny watching someone do that. especially if it doesnt work :laugh_at::laugh_at:
December 1, 2010 at 12:17 am #1232032worse thing about having the hiccups is trying to have a cigarette. always bugs me.
it’s funny watching somebody try to smoke a bong when they’ve got them though lol

is that still used in the uk for psychosis?
December 1, 2010 at 9:50 pm #1232043I think it’s hilarious that in victorian times doctors would use dildos to ‘cure’ women of ‘hysteria’
what!? lol I’m glad times have moved on

I think so – it was at least a few years ago –
the thing is it can work really well ………………. but has horrendous side effects so I guess they have to weigh up the pros and cons
prescribe some thing that can work and then have to give another tablet 3 times a day to counter the side effects or use something that may not work as well but will also have its own side effects…….
tough choice as I seen horrendous EPSI’sI personally wouldnt want to take it – but would if I was that ill, but generally by that time your insight has dissapeared anyway :hopeless:

think they gave it to me (perhaps not they all sound so simular) just before I went away for a week. Came back hearing voices and thinking people were trying to poison me. They also tried to give me ECT.
thank fuck for mindfulness.

its a difficult thing to do – get the right med’s – these days there is much more choice – but some of em can ‘make’ you really fat, some can give you joint pain etc etc
and again – ECT – I seen some people have fantastic recovery from catatonic states and some bad memory loss – and a few friend of mine have had pretty bad experiencesI think the thing with mental health is …..
its better than the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s but there is still a massive way to go –
and what with the brain it really is a trial and error kind of medicine still :hopeless:talking therapy and yeh – mindfulness
there is a really good few sites apparently
Mindfulness – Your Present Moment
Be Mindful Online – An Online Mindfulness Course
I find it really difficult – but think I need more practice

all the meds they ever gave me cause me harm in one way or another and I tried about 15 different ones. One of the unlucky ones perhaps

ECT scares the hell out of me even though its better that it used to be from what I understand (more localised).

took me a year of daily practise, 2 hours a week of instruction, an hour of one on one instruction and a lot of reading. Will be learning it for the rest of my life. Love it though. Hopefully getting put on a new course soon designed to stop people who have got over depression have it come back, cant wait.
…
December 1, 2010 at 10:58 pm #1232040you know hicups are called ‘pandiculation’, a stretching of muscles. yawning is also a form
