March 12, 2009 at 7:51 pm #1194898I found someone explaining about freeform, Apparently trancecore is now called freeform in that it’s hardcore but with trance like elements in it. All these different genres do get awfully confusing sometimes! :laugh_at:

Although I do of course still go out occasionally I’ve stopped caring about genres/DJ’s etc and even listening to music as I don’t have decks or the ambition to be a DJ / producer any more my mind is thinking more about all the other shit what is going on in the world and how to deal with it as I get older..
TBH I think new genres are invented so people can try and sell a few more tunes and scrape up whatever living they can get before the tunes are rinsed by the free sharers etc..

to be fair its been going on since the days I first got into electronic dance music (about 1987!) but there wasn’t quite as much definition of sub genres until the 1990s.
it does seem that today rather than just do a remix of a tune people increasingly invent a sub genre to go with it…
March 13, 2009 at 2:24 pm #1194895What about the people who make no money from the music they make, the people where the REAL new genres are coming from. Are you saying the whole dance music scene has lost its passion and all producers and labels care about is money?
Seems pretty farfetched tbh:you_crazy
March 13, 2009 at 2:25 pm #1194896PLus i hate happy hardcore, but love freeform. It is most definitely a genre in its own right!

10 years ago people could make more of a living through dance music or their creativity – maybe not replacing full time work but allowing them a bit more freedom – but the culture of everyone downloading stuff for free or a pittance has killed many of the revenue streams…
people still need cash to buy rigs, to hire venues etc….

It is most definitely a genre in its own right!I downloaded the mix Cliffy posted a link to. I liked the mix, and would agree its a “sort of” new genre but it did sound a bit like happy hardcore minus the vocal samples with touches of hardstyle / hard trance – I don’t even know what half of the genres are anyway these days or where they cross over:laugh_at:
what I am getting though is when it all started if people wanted to do a remix with a different style they would just do it and didn’t invent that many new genres. Otherwise it ends up like the sample in “one night in hackney” where the dude goes to the “scenester” club :laugh_at:
the reason I feel strongly about this is though is because in SE England it actually balkanised crews during the “good days”. At least in EA people what like different genres still seem to party together..
March 14, 2009 at 5:32 pm #1194904I have a great mix by someone (name escapes me right now) called psyform. Its not a genre so to speak but he seeks out quick psy tunes and freeform tunes with psy noises in and mixes them together. It is, imo, genius, one of my favourite mixes and gym essential!!
