      Hello everyone,

I am looking for a festival this summer that has a wide ish selection of music, some decent raver type fair but also with a few other big bands that are half worth seeing.

Could you all be so kind as to list lots of festival names in the UK not too far north that are happening this summer? Preferably not just 3 day event with DJ,s (I want to see some rock etc and some bands I have herd of)

Currently looking at Shambala but it looks a bit too family orientated and I am unsure of the music lineup etc.

Only festivals I have been to are Reading (3 times) and Sanctuary (think thats what it was call, small DJ thing in Winchester)

Shambala is excellent. Highly recommended I went last year. Huge variety of Bands, Rave acts. rollerdiscos, reggae and everything really. It’s very family during the day and full on during the evening night. Go expecting to be surprised. Sunday is fancy dress day.

Also worth checking out is Boomtown Fair. Rave and Ska.

Endorset festival in Dorset. I haven’t been but I I have heard good things.

The evening is having it. Huge party action. I came straight off a euro teknival tour to it. I expected it be a huge hippy family chillout type affair. I was wrong. Well there was a lot of hippies 😉

The families mainly kept their kids in the huge kids field. The evening and night it was massive party. lots of rave and band music everywhere. loads of crazy acts everywhere and a fantastic vibe. Wikked site as well.

Thanks mate it looks wicked. 99% sure we will be going as you can pay in two halves too so with a bit of support from the parents it should be possible. Are you going again this year?

nice one 😀 If im back in the UK in time for it then I will deffinitly be going again. I was working on the Kamakaze rave tent last year.

Don’t worry about the lack of programme or anything on the shambala website. That has always put me off before. Saw plenty of top acts and theres lots of rave action to be had at night. I actually prefered it to Glade mainly due to a bigger variety of things to see/do and the some of the world music bands that blew me away.

Sounds like you’re describing Beatherder mate.

It happens just down the road from me in Gisburn, Lancashire. It grew out of a well-known free party that regularly happened on the site that’s gone legit (Toil Soundsystem), and it attracts a lot of northern ravers – the atmosphere is as friendly as any free party and unlike any other festival I’ve been to. Also, there’s plenty of trippy shit to discover on the site, like working telephones that call across the site, and the underground tunnel that ends up in someones living room, and lots of dressing up and general sillyness.

The music is mainly dance-orientated – Toil have their rig set up in the woods, and there are various other local rigs in tents on the site. The main stage hosts bands, with better known artists headlining each night (Dub Pistols, Eat Static, Dreadzone, Banco di Gaia, Beardyman are a few I can remember).

It’s a pretty small fest (maybe 5000 at a guess?) and doesn’t seem to be getting any bigger now. Pretty cheap too, I think around £60 for 3 nights of music.

(I don’t work for them btw, I just really recommend this festival and it seems to fit what you describe.)

last year he slept through most of it :laugh_at:

but have heard similar from other friends who have been going to it for years and years, but this is natural progression and as last year was my first I have no previous years to compair it to and loved it

shambala can be the family friendly hippie vibe if you want or it can get messy, we managed the fine line last year
