Just as an aside I dotn think you’ll find its banned at all, I nhave a relative who has learning difficulties (brain damaged at birth) who was on it for years.
i think they stopped making the actual purple heart tabs but not the substance itself.
The Purple Hearts were a top band, I can recommend their Beat That album to Punk fans and old Mods alike !!

Ah ok – my dad told me they stopped using it – I assumed it had been banned .. I guess they did just stop using the name purple hearts then.

Son, when you participate in sporting events, it’s not whether you win or lose: it’s how drunk you get
.
Fame was like a drug. But what was even more like a drug were the drugs.
I hope I didn’t brain my damage.
Oh, I’m in no condition to drive. Wait a minute. I don’t have to listen to myself. I’m drunk

My dad’s mum used to take “purple hearts” (phenobarbitone) prescribed by the doctors back in them days for heart problems (basicaly some kind of barbituate shit with “hypnotic” and sedative properties that’s stupidly potent and now been banned) and left him at the bottom of her garden in his pramb when he was a baby for a whole day as she totaly forgot about him! It wasn’t untill the nabours heard him crying and knocked on the door he made it back in the house. O.o
Its still in use; Phenobarbital – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
alcohol and barbitals have killed several artists and rockstars….its one of these drugs that it too easy to fall in love with, that is one the reasons they invented benzodiazepines (diazepam) and a intoxcation problem when used together with alcohol….today its use is mostly for people with epilepsybut have a looksi here;
IndicationsPhenobarbital is indicated in the treatment of all types of seizures except absence seizures.[4][14] Phenobarbital is no less effective at seizure control than more modern drugs such as phenytoin and carbamazepine. It is, however, significantly less well tolerated.[15][16]
The first line drugs for treatment of status epilepticus are fast acting benzodiazepines such as diazepam or lorazepam. If these fail then phenytoin may be used, with phenobarbital being an alternative in the U.S. but used only third line in the UK.[17] Failing that, the only treatment is anaesthesia in intensive care.[14][18]
Phenobarbital is the first line choice for the treatment of neonatal seizures.[5][19][20] Concerns that neonatal seizures in themselves could be harmful make most physicians treat them aggressively. There is, however, no reliable evidence to support this approach.[21]
Phenobarbital is sometimes indicated for alcohol and benzodiazepine detoxification for its sedative and anticonvulsant properties. The benzodiazepines chlordiazepoxide (Librium) and oxazepam (Serax) have largely replaced phenobarbital for detoxification.[22]
[edit]Other usesPhenobarbital is often used for the treatment of acute withdrawal from benzodiazepines.[citation needed] Phenobarbital properties can effectively reduce tremors and seizures associated with abrupt withdrawal from benzodiazepines. Phenobarbital is a cytochrome P450 inducer. Its used to reduce the toxicity of some drugs.
Phenobarbital is occasionally prescribed in low doses to aid in the conjugation of bilirubin in patients suffering from Gilbert’s Syndrome.medicine and drugs are very often in strange combinations, I have had a go at them, If they have made me smart and a good driver when drinking beer I would have been on them everyday…but sadly it aint so…..and on bender they can be lethal, not because you can get poisoned but you start to puke and when that happens when you are comateuse you risk to inhail your stomac-acid and burnout your lungs….EDIT there is a risk for OD
