“Since I don’t smoke, I decided to grow a mustache – it is better for the health.
However, I always carried a jewel-studded cigarette case in which, instead of tobacco, were carefully placed several mustaches, Adolphe Menjou style. I offered them politely to my friends: “Mustache? Mustache? Mustache?”
Nobody dared to touch them. This was my test regarding the sacred aspect of mustaches.”

March 22, 2011 at 8:55 pm #1237005I’m not too fond of quotes as I believe they are counter-productive to free-thought and creativity.

i think the opposite, quotes are inspirational. i see what you mean, but everytime i feel stupid and the boys in my physics class ask me to make them a sandwich, i think about how “genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration” and i remember that my hard work will pay off, and that they’re going to fail because they just don’t try ^_^

I can understand that, it’s when people parrot them and mistake using someone else’s words for intelligence that I don’t like.
For example, there was this one guy, famous i think, can’t remember the name. He said something about how the desperation to distance ones self from childishness is the epitome of childishness in itself, and those who don’t separate things into for children and for adults are better people. It was something like, “when I was a child, I read fairy tales in secret, as an adult I read fairy tales in the open”March 23, 2011 at 8:45 am #1236792@JRGiger 426552 wrote:

Can I quote you on that? :weee:
Here’s some of my faves (one is in my sig already):
“The world is like a ride at an amusement park. It goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it’s very brightly coloured and it’s very loud and it’s fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, “Hey – don’t worry, don’t be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride…” But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. Jesus – murdered; Martin Luther King – murdered; Malcolm X – murdered; Gandhi – murdered; John Lennon – murdered; Reagan… wounded. But it doesn’t matter because: It’s just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It’s only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one. Here’s what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace. ” (Bill Hicks)
“Today, a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration – that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There’s no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we’re the imagination of ourselves. Here’s Tom with the weather.” (Bill Hicks)
“They tell us “Rock’n’roll is the devil’s music.” Well, let’s say we know that rock is the devil’s music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin’ jams! If it’s a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin’ Block … I’m gonna be surfin’ on the lake of fire, rockin’ out.” (Bill Hicks)
“You see, I think drugs have done some good things for us. I really do. And if you don’t believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor. Go home tonight. Take all your albums, all your tapes and all your CDs and burn them. ‘Cause you know what, the musicians that made all that great music that’s enhanced your lives throughout the years were rrreal fucking high on drugs.” (Bill Hicks)
“I’m glad mushrooms are against the law, because I took them one time, and you know what happened to me? I laid in a field of green grass for four hours going, “My God! I love everything.” Yeah. Now, if that isn’t a hazard to our country … how are we gonna keep building nuclear weapons, you know what I mean? What’s gonna happen to the arms industry when we realize that we’re all one?!” (Bill Hicks)
“All governments are lying cocksuckers.” (Bill Hicks)
“It is very dangerous to be right when the government is wrong” (Sartre)
“Any musical innovation is full of danger to the whole State, and ought to be prohibited… when modes of music change, the fundamental laws of the State always change with them.” (Socrates)
That’ll do for now…
