Circle of life mate init, ain’t willing to discuss it on a public forum sorry bud haha..
Just done some heavy heavy squats (below parrallell of course.. ain’t got time for them pussy half squats that dont do shit) I can barely walk and my legs feel like jelly lol
April 30, 2013 at 10:22 am #1259153People on here still go to free parties but don’t post too many details on the forum as they would be providing evidence to help the feds nick their friends and confiscate the rigs. Its not being PC as such but being careful, none of us would grass up our friends deliberately so why do it accidentally?
People have gone to prison for putting on these unlicensed events where I live so like any controversial activity if you are a decent person there are times you will limit your “free speech” simply to protect others. Even with the perceived limitations on what can be discussed here a lot of my friends who are DJ’s and put on events don’t want to be associate with this site because of the drugs element (and its not even as if we encourage risky behaviour or hard drug use). I can understand their concerns as I’ve advertised legal events on here before and cops have been all over them with extra drugs checks and this is for midweek legal events for college kids…

Tbh I think the PC element was referring to offensive jokes, or at least that’s how I read it. I’ve not even been registered with the site that long really but I’ve seen a bit of a difference in that respect. People used to say whatever they want and if it offended someone then maybe the offended would receive an apology but the joke/statement wouldn’t be retracted. Now it seems people are more careful of what they say and should it upset someone then the message is edited or deleted. That’s at least what I think, perhaps I’m wrong.
April 30, 2013 at 11:06 am #1259742Uni culture is fucking peak. Surrounded by fucking idiots.

I need to learn some more of this new yoot speak, I’m starting to feel like some sort of grandad saying ‘sound’ and ‘safe’ all the time.

In reality there have only been a few rare occasions where stuff has been deleted this has happened but its also part of the wider user base of this site changing and “growing up”, with a lot more women/girls and parents than many sites of this nature, as well as an extremely multicultural / multinational crowd. Its happening to all internet sites. Not everyone on here is a teenage or 20 something male living in a middle class environment of a European country or the USA where that sort of banter is common.
I’ve had to personally explain to a lot of people whose first language is not English that even mild stuff like the joke that someone is a Police detective really is just a joke as in some countries there is a lot more actual use of deep cover operations than in the UK.
Bear in mind also that moderators and admins are not anonymous (nor is anyone else on the Internet unless they are hyper paranoid) and everyone can be held accountable by law for what is posted online these days. Today people who run sites can be given the choice of either removing the offensive content or blocking the user or in extreme situations handing over details of users posting offensive or illegal material to the authorities, which none of us want to do, hence why certain things get removed. We don’t actually know and can’t second guess when/if a couple of users might even fall out with each other to the point the authorities (who could be in any country of the world) get involved, and because the corporate sites like Facebook hand over stuff without dissent the authorities now have a sense of entitlement to the info. Small community run sites like this cannot afford teams of lawyers. BTW similar sites in other European nations are also faced with the same dilemma regarding balancing free speech / legality / not alienating any particular part of a global community, its not just a UK specific problem.

it wasn’t any better in 1990 although to be fair todays courses seem slightly more engaging and interesting.

That’s because the none idiots generally realise in time the same careers can be achieved as those that go to uni but without so much financial strain. Says the unemployed man that didn’t go to uni lol

I didn’t necessarily mean that admin were deleting messages/editing posts (although I’m aware this happens from time to time), I was more getting at people seem to opt to do this themselves, although I suppose this should be seen as positive and a sign of maturity rather than over PCness. Granted though I do myself (and I’m probably not the only one) often forget that the PV community spreads far beyond us handful of regular posters. Rarely will I take into account all the hundreds if not thousands of people that may read our posts even if they don’t contribute to the conversation themselves. Guess that’s why you, Dr B and all the other mods do what you do.
April 30, 2013 at 1:34 pm #1259157I do think there is a certain amount of self censorship but that might not be such a bad thing, especially as the people from this site (albeit a small proportion who live in London/SE England) are increasingly meeting up with each other in real life, but still have differring views on politics, religion and/or how much of their personal life they would wish to share on a site where everything can end up permanently on Google 5 seconds after you hit send.
On a wider picture there is also a big whole wide world outside the Internet but it is still watching us and judging us and many in it living in democratic European countries have the power by consensus (not by some big government conspiracy) to decide whether things such as non problematic personal drug use or the night time economy is tolerated or suppressed, and how we conduct ourselves on sites like this in public view make a big difference.
As for (some) bumpkin parties in the East they have a worse record for violent incidents than the townie events and are just fucking up peoples farms in a economic depression. Its not 2000 any more when Europe was rich and farmers were getting fuckloads of subsidies for letting land lie fallow, most farmers here have been fucked over by the long winter.
I can’t even blame the feds for shutting them down these days though I do think they should at least make it genuinely easier for folk to do legal ones rather than expect them to find £20 000 for “policing costs” – and they should realise people in their 20s cannot afford to pay the “market rates” that Forestry charge to host middle aged rockers at Thetford Forest – but then again if they get the impression that people can afford to sacrifice rigs supposedly worth that sort of money its also not surprising they think there is a lot more money on the scene than there really is. there were also 10 years ago crews what cared a bit more about the wider community and environment – but they have been replaced by folk who aren’t genuinely bad/evil but just a bit selfish and don’t think things through and that is what has brought the free party scene on top – its become just a way of avoiding paying venue hire costs and dealing with licensing paperwork and accountability rather than harmless fun. TENS licenses have been available for nearly a decade and the event I went to using one (Planet Yes) was no more controlled than any free party and they had made a big effort for production etc (much more than your average k-head crew…)

Education side of it is really good – can’t fault that. It’s just the culture that seems to consist of drinking bare amounts of cheap cider, listening to shit r&b and dance-pop, being as false as possible and generally acting like a self entitled twat really bothers me. Not everyone is like that obviously but a large proportion are. Was just in a bad mood earlier on to be fair lol.

My hypothesis is that it’s all the chav dust being blown off local scumbags. For the first 22 years of my life I didn’t get pink eye once, then I moved to a place with a high concentration of chavs, then suddenly I get it like 2-3 times a year. I can usually recall the wind blowing something in my eye too the night before, must be all the scum particles in the air.
