Was in town yesterday :hopeless:
Everywhere I looked there was christmas light in the trees,in the windows of the big stores, people selling christmas candy on the street corners, even a santa walking around giving kids small toys and candy.:you_crazy:you_crazy
I can’t remember that christmas started that early when I was a kid,and I feel when we finally reach December,i’m sick of it all..
Does anybody else feel like that ?
November 13, 2006 at 1:11 pm #1094088i know what you mean. where i live some people are already covering their houses in all sorts of decorations.
i supose for the youngsters its quite exciting(i used to love it when we finaly put them up) but as i get older(and older) i seem to look thru it all and it just seems a bit fake, if you get me.
for a lot of people christmas and the new year is a very sad time of year.
November 13, 2006 at 2:02 pm #1094091The rule in my house is no earlier than start of december and my personal preference is one calendar week before midwinter [not xmas].
I worked in retail for a while and I cant stand seeing decorations going up before december:you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy
The meaning of the festival is being buried in commercial rubbish:crazy:

I remember when I was of the age when Xmas was an exciting time and it used to start mid Dec, not half way through August. Surely it’s detracting from the special magic you feel when you are a kid by dragging it out for so long.
I’m going to sound like an old fart here but I’m sure it used to be less about the presents and more about having a good time with family/friends. I now get a massive list from my niece and nephew of things that they require :crazy_diz
November 13, 2006 at 4:07 pm #1094094I went to Tescos earlier and guess what was blarring out ” frosty the snowman”
It makes you feel like u hate christmas!!!!!!
November 13, 2006 at 4:11 pm #1094090yep too right its getting way out of hand, every ones forgetting the real meaning of christamas!!
gaining a minimum of a stone in weight over 1 week through copius amounts of booze and food:weee:
November 13, 2006 at 6:46 pm #1094084The consumer push on Christmas definitely starts too early IMO, and has overriden any spiritual significance of this festival…

Nowadays seeing the amount of toy adverts and branded goods for kids just makes me glad I am not a dad or uncle!

Only £300
You just know there are going to be some seriously pressured parents of little girls who want this.

November 13, 2006 at 6:58 pm #1094087We should have a prize for the first person on the board to spot an easter advert. My guess is somewhere between xmas and 1st Jan.
The advertising year seems to go: easter, summer (cor isn’t it hot), halloween, xmas, easter.
Eventually I’m sure they’ll find other festivals to destroy – It’ll be diwali adverts next!
