In order to continue providing a quality service and be able to expand it in future you will need to subscribe in order to download from our music downloads archive from now on. Our running costs have increased fairly dramatically this last year (we did 2.3TB of traffic last month) and this change has to happen in order to keep things in proportion…
Thanks for your support!

February 7, 2010 at 8:28 pm #1222818Worth it, some pretty good mixes in there raaa
February 7, 2010 at 8:47 pm #1222825No worries Dr B!
February 7, 2010 at 11:56 pm #12228112.5 terabytes in a month -wow!
maybe this will encourage some of the downloaders to contribute to the community (with posts etc) rather than just leech our files 😉
February 8, 2010 at 1:26 am #1222833i do notice a large proportion of new members from the day are just downloading!
February 8, 2010 at 12:54 pm #1222829yeah so many people just join to dl or ask for methe lol
February 8, 2010 at 6:51 pm #1222819Might need to change the home page as well Dr B,
Features available include our very own radio station, clubwear and rave clothing, party pictures and a treasure trove of free music downloads.

Just downloaded a mix and noticed it says “free music downloads” in the very top bar in the browser title.
February 8, 2010 at 10:41 pm #1222814just noticed this thread after trying to download the swankie dj mix on another thread and not being allowed.
fair play tbh, will be interesting to see how much the bandwidth usage decreases.
its been a while since i subscribed,
February 8, 2010 at 11:18 pm #1222815Have to admit I feel slightly uneasy, I can afford to subscribe now and happily do so cos I love PV and all its people. But there were times when I had no spare cash, and a download of good techno to listen to every week or two helped keep me sane. ‘sup to you of course Dr.B, I don’t know if there is any cash to spare for a small allowance maybe for registered but non-donating people …
btw can unregistered folk still get PV radio ? that was essential to me back then !February 8, 2010 at 11:22 pm #1222830@leveret 371704 wrote:

February 8, 2010 at 11:23 pm #1222836btw maybe you can cut traffic costs by stopping the drugs forum getting crawled as it brings a lot of unwanted interest and also a lot of extra bandwidth frome one time wonders?

tbh alltho the forum uses some bandwith .. i would imagin it’s a very small preportion compared to downlaoed music
February 9, 2010 at 11:56 am #1222805My concern is our costs are scaling more steeply than donations are being made so I had to make a choice however the radio is free to all and I have no plans to change that…

the sex forum has been dead for awhile with its quality one post wonders, you can never take away the drug ones!!
February 9, 2010 at 12:35 pm #1222812there are lots of users who live in the same areas, all that needs to happen is for those what can afford to download can share the files with others who are non-suscribers by whatever means are convenient to all..

i didnt mean delete them.. i meant put in the robots file or whatever it is not to scan that area and so it will attract less 1post wonder / observer traffic
February 10, 2010 at 12:45 am #1222806In the interest of good musical karma I’m willing to offer a compromise of going to a system where downloads are freely available in the old system on and off in quarterly cycles. What do we think? Bear in mind our ability to raise money determines the quality we enjoy such as the speed of our internet access (one specific example would be deciding the maximum number of listeners we can host on the radio streams at anyone one time)…
February 10, 2010 at 11:48 am #1222817I think all mixes over 1or 2 years old should be free for all to download, just make the new mixes for donators only?
Max listeners
25 on 128 stream
25 on 192 stream
really never seen more than 14 at the same time anyway, no reason to pay for them.February 10, 2010 at 5:32 pm #1222821Is there a way that you can link the ability to post counts? For example, you have to post a certain amount of posts a month to be allowed to download. But then also limit this to a small number of downloads a month.
It would encourage people to join in on the forum and actually post and not leech free music, also might encourage people to donate to the site.
I doubt it is possible, but could you set it up so that non subscribers can only download files of a lower bit rate?
February 10, 2010 at 5:34 pm #1222822or could you have a set amount of data available to download by non subscribers a day, once this has run out you can only download if you subscribe
(just ideas as I have no idea what would be possible or not for you to do with the site)
February 10, 2010 at 6:10 pm #1222826Why not limit it to one download a week for non subscribers, Would this work?

This is how it was…
February 10, 2010 at 8:13 pm #1222835i thought the certain amount of posts idea was the best.
