May 21, 2012 at 11:25 pm #1253533sounds pretty good, thinking of doing a festival this year.
May 21, 2012 at 11:58 pm #1253522I didn’t realise she was unwell (as she lived a relatively clean living lifestyle) = as well as the usual places she even managed to get an obituary on Catholic Online – originally she started out as a gospel singer in church (a lot of my extended family in Malaysia still do this).
Disco diva Donna Summer dies at 63 – Music & Dance – Arts & Entertainment – Catholic Online
TBH never been that much into US based music but that tune has a very European sound – she lived in Europe for much of her life, spoke fluent German and met Giorgio Moroder whilst performing there…

May 23, 2012 at 9:42 pm #1253523Apparently there were/are still lots of African American musicians in DE (Boney M are another lot from that era). Donna Summer mentioned it herself in some interviews.
Until very recently and particularly during the 1960s and into the 1970s it was far safer for a high profile celebrity from a minority group to live in Europe than many parts of America – even if they deploy close protection (minders) these cannot always be trusted. We often take the fact most of Europe is multicultural and relatively safe for granted.

She had a coke induced breakdown in 1979 and took refuge in the bible. I think her first hit after that was- State of independence- in 1981, and she was going on about how religion had saved her life, she had stopped performing – love to love you baby- during this period of her life, but by 1984 she was saying she didnt regret a minute of her past. Think i said here before that the first record i bought was – On the radio- for 10p from a second hand shop down in rockchester, kent. I never did get to play it, as we didnt have a record player at the time
