I never understood the difference between hardstyle and hardcore. Someone englighten me.
Hardcore would be played at a faster bpm kinda around 155-160 I think maybe 170 but hardstyle is more like 135 to 140. Also hardore can come with some cheesy vocals singing some radom crap about blue sky days being here to stay etc.

im not really in the know, but what ive experienced it seems to bridge the border between music that i like and music for numpties… went to a hardstyle night in plymouth once and there was an mc and later 2 fights, one on the dancefloor and the other spilling out onto the street…
I’ve read similar reports on Dutch forums about hardstyle events in their native country, though they don’t MC to faster genres, as it is hard to do that in a Germanic language without sounding a bit like Hitler.

Pretty much spot on there Logworth. Another key distinction is that hardstyle isn’t afraid to promote drug use, this is frequently combined with an aggressive bass-line and therefor is great music for pissing off normal people.
Nothing quite beats bounding around in public off your tits on E, blasting out the hardstyle and soaking up all the judgemental looks while you have the time of your life.

This is a fucking tune – to me this is hardstyle, but proper hardstyle.
How is that hardstyle? Don’t know what bpm its at but I’m guessing not enough to be hardstyle. Even if it was fast enough the sound’s all wrong to be hardstyle. I’m not and never been much of a trance fan but that’s definitely hard-trance to my ears bro.
June 10, 2013 at 8:48 pm #1273859Another nice hard trance track http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=KmLaTCnvzfc
June 10, 2013 at 9:39 pm #1273843I bought that tune in 99 and it was of unknown style to me and most others despite borrowing pieces of Hard House, Techno & Trance.
A load more of that style started to come through and it was called German Trance or Hardstyle in the UK and this was before Hardstyle was discovered as such. So that name has stuck with me as I stopped buying it shortly after starting and haven’t followed it since. So with that said, I doubt I have any idea what modern Hardstyle is!
It does however have a heavy kick and a reversed bassline, as per the description of hardstyle which I just read.
Recommend a tune to get me clued up.
June 10, 2013 at 9:51 pm #1273860As I said even I have lost interest in most modern hardstyle but this is one I really like. Not sure of its year of release, maybe 09

June 10, 2013 at 9:57 pm #1273861What, it all fixed itself. Bastard Google.
June 10, 2013 at 10:08 pm #1273844Yeah, I think Youtube crapped out briefly. Removed the other two. Hope you don’t mind.
Seems it’s much what I expected it to sound like. Definitely not my bag! I can see that it’s quite removed from that Hennes & Cold track though, but it was definitely known as hardstyle round these parts at the time 🙂

No not at all, broken links and duplicate posts look a mess anyway.
That’s fair, can’t please all the people all the time. Well I didn’t really listen to any electronic music in the late 90s, they were the beginnings of my rocker years, so I wouldn’t know what was what in the hard dance scene.

Most tunes by Showtek convert a lot of people. If none of these tracks please your ears Hardstyle isn’t for you, these are slightly older btw than the last track

This was when Showtek were good, I was wounded when they went commercial and collaborated with the likes of Tiesto.June 11, 2013 at 12:36 am #1273845Just gave em all a try and it’s not my thing. I think I don’t like the marching music style of it and the tendency towards the trancey riffs that remind me of funfairs and sea shanties. Cheers for posting them up though.

No worries. I appreciate you gave the time to listen to them even if they weren’t your cuppa.

thought that would be popular round your way :laugh_at:, it certainly is across the border.
TBH I actually do listen to sea shanties, best one I’ve heard is “Er is een schip gezonken” sung by these 60 year olds in some pub by the Netherlands coast…
