it was a really bizzare time TBF, we didn’t have our free “new media” like today but “old media” was run by people in their 50s and above, they still had money and wanted to be “down with da yoof” and of course wanted to cash in on a new phenomenon but at the same time we so naïve they genuinely didn’t realise it was all fuelled by hard drugs (until the mid 90s when lots of middle class kids started getting addicted).
There was also still a crossover of cheesy synth based eurodance since the 1980s, and things like pop charts and radio shows presented by old celeb DJ’s (and their music selection) mattered to a wider audience than the Historical Sexual Crimes Investigation Units of large constabularies. So anything would get released if they could put a pretty girl (or boy!) on the stage in return for certain favours and stuff like this actually got recording deals…
