well 2 years later I did buy a controller and found that whilst beatmatching is slightly easier than vinyl, its still not a instant solution to everything. I do not use the “sync” button much if at all as doing so will of course end up with the pitch adjust adrift from where I expect it to be, some old ideas still remain. TBH its only use is probably for club DJ’s who are forced into playing pop dance and thus have shorter track lengths to deal with.
That said most of the big name EDM DJ’s (at least for some genres) have now virtually abandoned vinyl and are using CDJ’s as well as digital equipment of varying kinds, even then I suspect that the CD’s are increasingly only there as a backup in case of a computer crashing due to sketchy electric in the venue or similar….
For me it was the difference between getting back into mixing or not at all. Also for the younger people who started this thread their budgets which would not have bought a decent vinyl deck probably would have got a reasonable (if small) controller with built in soundcard, and they presumably already have a computer to write this message. plus I can’t say I miss having to haul heavy and fragile vinyl around, or even deal with multiple CD’s what can end up in the wrong covers, or mislabelled if they are burned from a computer.
