got forced off the road today on my moped by some idiot in a bmw. he went to overtake me just before a blind bend, then once he’d commited another car came the opposite way. by this time he was next to me so rather than brake he tried to accelerate then move outta the way of the oncoming car, i was goin down a country lane so there was fuck all space. next thing i remember is hittin the verge before flying off landing feet above head in a ditch full off stingin nettles. not pleseant at all! i was fine, but my peds a bit fucked. im more annoyed cos the driver fucked off without seein if i was ok. coulda died for all he knew. plus i didnt get his number plate so no chance of claiming on his insurance 😥 so im left to make my own way to work tommorrow and a nicely fucked ped.
glad im not still lyin in that ditch tho, maybe tommorrow will be a bit better for me :noway:
ne of you cyclists ever feel like car drivers walk all over you? im sorta used to it now but todays make me annoyed about it
July 5, 2006 at 11:14 pm #1081318I’ve got a motorbike, car and a scooter, I even used to deliver pizza way back so I know what it cab be like. I’ve had people deliberatly try and take me out loads of times especially on smaller machines.
Glad your OK though
July 5, 2006 at 11:14 pm #1081314sorry to hear about this – unfortunately there are a lot of scum about on the roads of South Oxfordshire. There was some idiots deliberately attacking cyclists around Chinnor/Wallingford a few weeks ago; just reaching out and pushing them off the road..
Squat Monkey wrote:ne of you cyclists ever feel like car drivers walk all over you? im sorta used to it now but todays make me annoyed about ityep, and I usually expect any driver (and most pedestrians!) to do something stupid and position myself on the road accordingly/try and get sufficient space for an escape route! Most drivers are OK but there are always a few dodgy ones (mostly younger people in “chavmobiles” ; amazingly here the white van drivers/bus drivers/taxicabs are actually OK and let you go first!)
Thankfully Ipswich is way better than Reading/Oxfordshire but thats only because there is less traffic about and a lot of traffic cops/CCTV.
Even so there are some horrendous crashes (mostly between cars though), which are the sort where people assume the road ahead is clear and go faster than they should.
Every weekend it seems people in their late teens/20s end their lives on the roads round here 🙁 more so than in the more urbanised/city areas I used to live in!
I am actually starting to get really worried about the “rave traffic” as well because it seems to be a lot of young (and often new) drivers who are driving 60-100 miles each weekend as raves are forced into more and more remote area.
Even if the drivers do not take excessive amounts of alcohol or drugs, many are sleep-deprived either on the journey back or going to work the next morning – I have a nasty feeling a lot of crashes younger drivers are involved in are because of this.
July 6, 2006 at 7:47 am #1081328Why do you think i never got a ped??? Yeah ok there cheap and you can have one at 16 but the lack of speed that they produce aggrivates drivers (not myself) and just tempts people to get past ASAP and usually in stupid places!
I rode a bike for years before passing my test and yeah, alot of people dont give a shit abd its dodgey on the road on a bike.
Even in my car every day i end up given the finger to some arragent cunt that sits up my arse because i choose to do the speed limit!Unlucky T, shit happens and im afraid there are assholes out there you cant do anything about except give em the finger!

It’s prob no consilation now, as your prob still reeling from all the sh*t news but atleast you survived the crash even if the car didn’tJuly 6, 2006 at 9:06 am #1081335i work in the bike capital of britan, our amsterdam (without the drugs:cry: ), im talkin about cambridge,
just about every large road has a cycle path and there are many car free cycle routes around the city, generally the drivers are quite good as we have space to cycle in (out in my village i face the normal probs of being shoved off the road)
the problem we face is our mentalist fellow cyclist, its mainly the tourists & foregin students not knowing about roads signs and such, going straight through red lights, zebra crossings, and along pavements,
but the mentalist locals (including myself:yakk: ) zipping about using roads, cycle paths and the pavement showing no respect for fellow road users and being a general neusence – its great,
apparently the police are starting to do on the spot fines round here though, i’d betta watch out:crazy:

I told him if he wanted to get run over then just ask!

Much sympathy m8. That really sucks, but glad to hear you are ok.
I’ve always felt car drivers should be made to take a bike test before they are allowed behind the wheel. It would make them realise that driving any vehicle is inherently unsafe, and requires all your attention to do.
When I passed my bike test, and went for a little spin on the bike centres CB500 (I paid for the big bike test, so figured I deserved a little celebration:wink:), I had 3 cars pull out right in front of me as if I wasn’t there (I was wearing the bike place’s high vis vest, had my headlight on, and was riding a bright yellow bike, so SMIDSY would have resulted in fisticuffs had I hit one of them). If I hadn’t been on the ball, I’d have been off the bike! Not only that, but one of the twats shook his fist at me as though it was my fault.
I have to say these days, if somebody does that to me, I stick my boot out, and leave a nice dent in their wing if I can. Maybe not the most PC solution, but if it saves one life because they are more careful afterwards, then it’s worth it. And if they really didn’t see me, then they shouldn’t be driving IMO.:ar15::ar15::ar15:
Anyhow, rant over…:rant::rant::rant:
Like I say – glad to hear you’re OK at least.

July 6, 2006 at 10:04 pm #1081315Shit mate, glad to hear you’re ok. I’ve had quite a few close calls when out on my treader, nothing too serious though. Helmets are the way forward!
July 7, 2006 at 10:09 am #1081321AARRGGHH more bad bike luck! :crazy_diz taped it up after the accident, then on my way to work today the exaust fell clean off!! i then had to stand by the road trying to wave down every car that came past, not one stopped, and it wasnt exactly a quiet road. after about an hour some dog walker lent me 50p for a phonebox, which had been vandalised by some cunt! then some safe builder lent me his mob.
i then had to sit around for 2 hours while i waited for my breakdown service person to arrive, and had to pay him 20 quid!!
now im stuck at home my boss is angry and ive gotta shell out more money to fix my worthless ped.
really hasnt been my week so far….
July 7, 2006 at 10:22 am #1081317Hope this helps.
After I had crashed a motorcycle, many moons ago, a friend of mine gave me some good advice that helped alter my perspective to this day. I was whinging about my bike, and my relatively minor gravel rash, and he said: “Try not to think of the crash you have had, but the bigger one around the corner that was waiting for you, and which you avoided because of your accident”. It works for me every time.July 7, 2006 at 12:06 pm #1081325This bad bike luck is spreading i had a crash last night:yakk:
July 7, 2006 at 8:16 pm #1081332How about this lucky driver..:you_crazy

all motorbikes have the engines severely restricted before they can be sold in this country
IMO this makes small 50cc bikes more dangerous because you can’t keep up with the traffic even in a built up area
July 10, 2006 at 8:56 pm #1081331Most 50cc’s sound awful IMO
