December 15, 2006 at 12:50 pm #1096376I’m French.
So we eat a lot.
And drink too much.
As for every celebration.
Nothing very exiting,indeed.

December 15, 2006 at 1:30 pm #1096377go down the pub for a couple of hours, then back home for some christmas dinner, then more drinks
just a piss up with family and friends really
December 15, 2006 at 4:37 pm #1096374I dont think its really a tradition as such but historically my immediate family fights when together for christmas. The extended family is ok though and I am toying with spending one with them at some point :weee: as long as my parents are not there 😉
I avoid being stuck in a house with argueing parents over xmas and have, for 5 years now, spent xmas with my friends, my partner and the Techno Toddler which has been both eye-opening and most enjoyable [so thank you very much to the hostess and host and thanks for the regular invites too :weee::love:]
To me Midwinter is about celebrating the lengthening of the days and seeing the New Year in with a party – I do give presents but for me it is the quality time which matters most and enjoying the company of those around you.

December 15, 2006 at 4:47 pm #1096372I will be spending most of Xmas with my family – my immediate family treat it as a low key affair anyway.
Like most British Asian families we remain close throughout the year anyway (in fact all my immediate and extended family who are resident in the UK either live with 20 miles of each other in various houses in SE England and Eastern England)
And I work in a family business so we have to learn to tolerate one another
I will try not to eat and drink too much as I am starting to put on weight these days… – but I will try and catch up with my friends in Reading if I go back there – plus NYE there is a local legal event that I will be at…
December 16, 2006 at 10:50 am #1096373its baby’s first xmas, so we are going to my parents to save on the hassle of making dinner etc! boxing day is more of a family day as my brother’s and i all have our own families and various commitments for xmas, so we all gather at mum n dads boxing day. this year there will be 20 of us!
as for my little family we will be celebrating winter solstice on the 21st, with a good seasonal meal and presents for the little one!
