Yeah but i don’t think that’s what it’s all about tho dude.
It ain’t about the money, it’s to stand up and say we don’t want some cheesy shit x factor tune as number one.
What better way than with a tune that has “Fuck you i won’t do what you tell me” as lyrics! raaa
yeah good point, it is probably mainly about the music
but the irony is that sony gettin money either way will just enable them to sign more and more cheesy shit and release it
and in general about RATM i find it ironic thy are signed to sony cos they do bang on about anarchism and smashin commercialism yet are signed to one of the biggest mainstream labels in the world. like it or not RATM’s soul is owned by consumerism just like the rest of the world, they just dont wanna admit it

nah they are hypocritical tbh
immortal technique is where its at, runs his own label and still a major artist, but always turns down the regular offers from sony/universal etc.
im sorry i like RATM’s music but people what listen to them and think they are anarchic and revolutionary need to grow up tbh

otoh you could argue that the activism they have entailed shows that they do represent what the say they do

you cant preach that eating meat is evil when you munch 500,000 beef burgers every year
they do some good activism with other stuff, like against torture and stuff, that is fair enough and big respect to em for it, all im sayin is that their anti-consumerist message is slightly ironic
December 16, 2009 at 6:48 pm #1221439Just read on NME that Rage are going to donate all the profits of their song to a UK charity.
Fair fucking play i say!

I think it was a couple called Jon and Tracy Morter who started the campaign via facebook.
First time i’ve heard about the prodigy being involved tbh. 😉
(actually just seen the prodigy are supporting the campaign)
December 17, 2009 at 10:30 am #1221460sony are laughing all the way to the bank, i wouldnt be surprised if they started this campaign themselves

Actually the people who started this campaign did it to raise awareness for the homeless around xmas time. Also as well to stop X factor from getting to number 1 which if they do will be the 5th year running!
RATM have said any profits made from all this will be going to a UK charity, probably the homeless one.

December 17, 2009 at 12:12 pm #1221417If you need a laugh check the FB link’s ‘discussion’ pages – they are a raging flame war :laugh_at:personal attacks ftw
December 17, 2009 at 12:44 pm #1221415download and pirate to fuck both them tunes and give them to a homeless or something like that :laugh_at:
I wouldn’t shed a tear if/when the entire entertaintment industry crashes and burns and all pop stars and simon cowell types are forced back to the day jobs. doesn’t mean they have to stop making music, as most people on the electronic dance music scene have do just this..
December 17, 2009 at 12:57 pm #1221461saw stewart lee live last night
he made a good point saying that the charts are so shit because anyone intelligent knows how to download music illegally so the only people who buy music are sheep who buy what tv tells them to
December 17, 2009 at 6:41 pm #1221468Some quotes below might help clarify their world view, doesn’t seem to me like they are hypocritical.
“When you live in a capitalistic society, the currency of the dissemination of information goes through capitalistic channels. Would Noam Chomsky object to his works being sold at Barnes & Noble? No, because that’s where people buy their books. We’re not interested in preaching to just the converted. It’s great to play abandoned squats run by anarchists, but it’s also great to be able to reach people with a revolutionary message, people from Granada Hills to Stuttgart”
“America touts itself as the land of the free, but the number one freedom that you and I have is the freedom to enter into a subservient role in the workplace. Once you exercise this freedom you’ve lost all control over what you do, what is produced, and how it is produced. And in the end, the product doesn’t belong to you. The only way you can avoid bosses and jobs is if you don’t care about making a living. Which leads to the second freedom: the freedom to starve”
December 17, 2009 at 9:29 pm #1221469The BBC has apologised after Radio 5 live listeners heard Rage Against the Machine swearing in a live performance of their song Killing In The Name.
Zack de la Rocha, the US band’s singer, was heard swearing four times on the station’s breakfast show.
The band are hoping the 1992 hit will beat X Factor winner Joe McElderry to this year’s Christmas number one.
A BBC spokesman said: “We had spoken to the band repeatedly beforehand and they had agreed not to swear.”
He added: “When they did, we faded the band out and said sorry immediately.
“We apologise again to anyone who was offended.”

Awesome!! What were they expecting though. Asking them not to swear when you know they’re gonna anyway.
Bit of controversy round xmas time, I’m loving it! raaa
