the drivers in them are fucked, due to having too much power put through them. What is a “decent” set of headphones depends a lot on what you are doing with them, whether you are just DJ’ing (in which case you mostly want good bass response for beat matching), whether you are using them for gaming or telephone calls/or intercepting such calls or whether you are producing music or want to listen to best quality without annoying your parents late at night. At your age you will still be able to hear over 18kHz so might want ones with better frequency response. For instance at 15/16 I could easily hear up to 22 kHz and even now can just about manage 18.5 kHz which isnt’ bad for someone approaching middle age..
That said I tend to keep a number of cheaper sets of headphones (as I mostly do mixing) than one expensive one. The main point though is to watch the volume on the cans – and also the rest of your kit. Also avoid sending in distorted audio. You can buy as many of these as you can afford in your lifetime, but the NHS can’t get you a new pair of ears…

November 27, 2011 at 7:13 pm #1247067i know of people who’ve quit using money and they say they much prefer learning actual proper survival skills like what you can and can’t eat in the wild and living in communes where they trade their skills instead of money.
the best system is what works best for YOU. best is an opinion…
our eastern communist owners seem to be doing pretty fucking well compared to the fucked up west in this day n age….

I actualy tired this for a bit … it’s hard work tho, and i’ve got so many other things i wanna learn to that i chose to learn other things instead. If were were all taught basic survival in school as standard, or even better total self surficiancy, the world would be a much diferant place wiht alot less need for consumerism.

exactly, the school system is a complete brainwash to put you inside their system. they don’t even teach you basic rights (law) because they like ignorance and compliance.

When this happens it’s usually cos you’ve caned them with really loud music. It causes ‘over-excursion’ of the drivers, meaning the voice-coil assembly (the bit that actually moves in and out and pushes the air) has moved too far and has deformed and is scraping against the magnet. You’ve probably heard this effect on old knackered speakers that have been driven too hard.
Find some headphones that are good at dealing with high SPLs. Sony actually make some decent closed-back headphones for DJs that can go pretty loud. Just remember though that loud headphones are about the best way there is to damage your ears – if you’ve managed to drive a pair of cans to the point that they’ve started to rattle you might want to think about how it’s affecting your hearing.
Personally I have 3 pairs of headphones, some open-back Sennheiser HD600s which sound amazing and rarely leave the house – they’re way too expensive and delicate to take to a gig (and pretty useless in a noisy environment anyway as they’re open-backed) so I just use them for listening to music and mixing recordings, a pair of Sennheiser HD25s for general use and live work, and a cheap £15 pair of Sonys that are pretty much disposable.

Drugs like MXE and Ketamine dull the hearing as well, making it easy to do this, also if you are not careful its easy to send noisy/distort signals into your amp.
A few years ago I did a sweep test with 3 of my friends. wasn’t very “scientific”, basically, run the sweep, press the space bar when the sound stops and look at the frequency. I was then in my mid 30s, the other dude 27 and the youngest 23. We were all equally moosed (this was after a party) but whilst me and the 27 year old got up to 19.5 kHZ, the younger lad’s HF range had stopped at 14 kHZ. This is the sort of heaing range of a 50-60 year old (and also why tney tend to hoard and praise 1960s/1970s audio qequipment which lacks HF response).

I hardly listen to anything on a moderatly loud volume, find things sound better when it’s at a medi-core-low volume.
As for mxe, I find it uncomfortable to listen to anything at a loud volume, usually have something playing at the lowest volume setting on my phone.I have only found myself putting it to max volume on mpa or something, in normal use though this become uncomfortable.
So it’s perhaps that or possibly that I’ve given them many many drops/wacks?

Did they make it illegal earlier this year, to give free tax advice? Something like that, it was on the news. They are definately trying to keep us ignorent weather that became law or not, they tried.

He seems quite fine about it I guess. Surprisingly 😀
November 30, 2011 at 2:34 pm #1247049TBH Chris’s Dad is most likely going to be around the same age group as manaman, sinner and myself, and would thus be well aware of the drugs culture in the UK and Europe, especially as our generation is responsible for it. Most parents of this age group are only worried about their kids health and/or the consequences of being arrested for drugs rather than being dogmatically against them. Even my own Dad accepted in the last few weeks of his life that the only difference between “his drugs” and “my drugs” was the legality or otherwise and even then he did cross the line a couple of times but my Mum discouraged him from getitng too deeply involved in this in the 1970s – I only learned in 2009 they came close to splitting up then and me being taken to Malaysia to be brought up with my nan, and had that happened it would have been a strict Christian upbringing and I almost certainly would have ended up joining the feds or military / government services there to make up for the loss of masculinity/identity from not having a proper Dad and the culture shock of changing countries. Plus ended up being married and expected to produce a family.. Thankfully for everyone this did not happen – as I would still be monitoring websites like this but for the “wrong” reasons…

his dad lives in south africa.
November 30, 2011 at 3:01 pm #1247050they’ve got a fairly active drugs culture there as well influenced by the UK and NL as well as the natives of all racial groups, which developed in the wake of the euphoria caused by the end of apartheid. I used to work with a number of South African accountants and they said there was loads of raves in some areas, as well as all the pills and weed you could want..
