Check it out now – a monster crowd of ravers at Loch Ness
      CRAIG BROWN

THOUSANDS of dance music fans are to descend on the banks of Loch Ness for a gig by top DJ Fatboy Slim, it was announced yesterday.

The star is to hold the June gig for an expected 20,000 fans outside the village of Dores, four miles from Inverness.

He has previously staged huge shows on beaches at Brighton and Rio de Janeiro.

The performer, also known as Norman Cook, said the one-off show, also featuring Scots dance star Mylo and DJ Carl Cox, would make up for the lack of a Glastonbury festival this year.

He said: “I couldn’t think of a more suitable caper.”

It will be the first time Loch Ness has hosted such an event. The site, described by Cook as a “beauty”, was chosen after plans to hold another party on Brighton beach fell through.

He said: “We tried Brighton again, and they weren’t having it. We thought: what if we could find a beach in Scotland, too?”

Despite the cold, wet weather, the DJ – a former member of Eighties pop group the Housemartins – visited Dores beach to unveil the concert’s line-up.

He admitted: “It is bitterly cold, but I can promise it will be beaming sunshine on the day.”

The dance star added: “I can guarantee three things: a) everyone will dance their arses off; b) there will be no midges; c) there will be a monster. It will be a monster bash and I can guarantee Nessie will make an appearance.”

Despite the excitement, local councillor Ella Macrae, who is also the landlady of the only pub in Dores, was cautious at the prospect of 20,000 ravers travelling to Dores.

She said: “This is bizarre and surreal. I am speechless. It is something else for the village.

“I know there are a lot of people excited, but I don’t know if that will be the feeling in the community. There will be reservations about so many people descending on Dores.

“We will be discussing with the organisers to see everything is organised properly and the village is not disadvantaged.”

Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the show on 24 June.

if its anything like the one he did in Brighton in 2002 by the end of it the locals will be wanting to set Nessie, a plague of midg(i)es, wildcats, and the Proclaimers on him and then have him “gralloched and broucht afore ye fiscal” , and dumped naked across the border at Workington to be picked up by the government Livestock Control centre up there…

his event went totally pear shaped, resulted in all 3 blue light services and HM Coastguard being deployed, NHS on red alert, 100 injured, 1 dead etc, overcrowding and transport gridlock, it was more like a fucking disaster area than a party by the end of it.

            http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,755372,00.html

worse still ISTR it resulted in complete lockdown on events in that area for a few months afterwards and zero tolerance on unlicensed events which lasts to this day (although of course some people still manage it)

he is such a numpty. after he put on that thing in brighton, and said 20,000 peps were gonna turn up, when in reality it was more like 150,000, 2 people died, and it was easily the shittest party ive ever been to (i left about ten minutes in) and he still didnt get sued, hes now doing the same in scotland with the same ridiculously low figure. considering hes announced it this early in the national press, i would say he will get at least 4 times that, and im amazed that the powers that be have beleived his lying face.

then again it is cotland, and the tourist board are prolly all having a phat wank over getting lots of loaded party goers to their area.

that is my prediction, i’ll dig out this post after the event and eat my words if it goes smoothly.

smoothly in this case = lower casualty count than before

Its going to have to be licensed, and for every festival that occurs they treat them as a potential major incident/disaster area (hardly surprising though) so all NHS facilities and emergency service units are put on standby.

Having looked at the place on the map it actually does seem very remote compared to Brighton, it doesn’t even seem to be near any of the places where our Scottish crew live. Even they would have quite a mission to get these, TBH I think he has been sent up there for this very reason as noone in England would put up with such an event after his track record.

                    norman cook is a nob.

and a nob who plays unforgivable cheese.

i watched a documentary ages ago about various DJs… it showed him and andrew weatherall playing the same night

Norman was jumping around and waving his arms when all he was doing was beat matching 4/4 gorgonzola and putting the cross fader over

all these dummies were leaping around gawping at him shouting “wooo”

when Andy came on he was doing some well complex and delicate mixing, just standing behind the decks… the footage was wicked, with all these dummies looking lost at the front, but the rest of the place was burning up; peple dancing with each other / by themselves, not ‘at’ the DJ

Mr waetherall was interviewed and said something like “norman is a showman, i’m just a bloke in a T-shirt playing records.”… his records just happened to be f****** blinding tho :horay:

I think the Scots are being landed with this “festival” for the same reason you lot get landed with our nuclear subs and power stations…

Yer, I’m staying in Aberdeen at the moment, and even from there Inverness is still over 100miles further North West.

Also, one of the only roads up to Inverness (short of having to go up the coast), and by far it’s main communication route is the A9, which is known as one of the most dangerous roads in Britain in terms of accidents, with many many blackspots. The mind boggles at the thought of 20,000 extra folk driving (give or take for those going by plane/train) up there.

                          This doesn’t bode well.
